University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to support UPMC Vision Institute-Oakland located at 203 Lothrop Street 6th Floor Pittsburgh, PA 15213. This role will work Monday through Friday daylight hours (hours vary based on clinical needs. Typically, between 7am-5pm). 25% travel to satellite locations (Shadyside, Forbes, Monroeville, St. Margaret's, Mercy, Wexford, Bethel Park, Natrona Heights) as needed for coverage is required.

Responsibilities:
+ Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
+ Candidate will perform all imaging requested by physicians (HVF, OCT, Fundus Photos, Slit Lamp Photos, A-scans (automatic and manual), etc., daily.
+ When needed and on low census imaging days, the candidate will perform all aspects of patient in-take for the physicians. This includes, but is not limited to: medical history, review of medications, weight/BP, obtaining visual acuity, IOP measurements, motility and confrontational field assessment, pupil assessment, dilation, etc.
+ Prepping patients for specific procedures and assisting physicians during those procedures along with be accessible when not with patients to assist physicians.
+ Cleaning/flipping exam rooms to assist with patient flow.
+ Opening/closing/stocking duties as assigned.
+ Assisting with in-baskets, patient messages, voicemails, reschedules, scrubbing imaging schedules in preparation of upcoming appointments, etc., and other administrative duties as assigned under the direction of the Lead Coordinator/Practice Manager.
+ Contact lenses: insertion, removal and instructions
+ Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.
+ History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.
+ Lensometry: automated and manual
+ Angle assessment & dilation of pupils
+ Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.
+ Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields
+ Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test
+ Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus
+ Tonometry: Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of
+ Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
+ Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** Valid CPR certification
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
