Job Description

The Department of Physics at Old Dominion University invites applicants for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate specialized in theoretical nuclear/particle physics, to begin June 10, 2025 and will be a 12-month appointment. This Post-Doctoral Research Associate will conduct research performed jointly at ODU and Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility under the supervision of Dr. Arkaitz Rodas Bilbao. The position is a two-year, restricted appointment, subject to funding availability and satisfactory progress.

Job Responsibilities:

+ Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research as agreed upon with the PI.

+ Participate in the preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication as co-author or sole author.

+ Engaging in self-directed professional reading, developing contacts with colleagues, and attending seminars as directed by the faculty member or department head.

Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Theoretical Nuclear or Particle Physics by no later than July 25, 2025.

Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

+ At least one (1) successful research project in the area of hadron spectroscopy or closely related field.

+ Active knowledge of quantum field theory.

+ Knowledge of Mathematica or similar software.

+ Coding skills in either Python, C, C++ or Fortran.
