Therapeutic Recreation Specialist - SJH

Summary: Provides Therapeutic Recreational Services to patients of all ages including adolescents, adults and geriatric patients who are referred. Evaluates the Therapeutic Recreational needs of the patient; develops goals and treatment plan in conjunction with the patient and family/significant other; executes treatment program; provides education to patients, families and caregivers; supervises Therapeutic Recreation students in compliance with hospital, national and state regulatory policies.
Education: Bachelor of Science (4 year Therapeutic Recreation Degree) or Bachelor of Arts (4 year degree related field to Therapeutic Recreation) and specific coursed taken in Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation (Equivalency Academic Process).
Licensure: Certification by the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation (NCTRC) as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist; Current certification in CPR. No state licensure required.
Experience: Experience in inpatient rehabilitation setting preferred. Therapeutic Recreation theory, evaluation and treatment techniques, group dynamics, activity analysis and ability to develop a therapeutic relationship with a variety of patients.

• Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines.
• Ability to utilize sound interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, taking into consideration cultural background, linguistic skills and age of customers.
• Maintains information confidential (HIPAA)
• Demonstrated customer service skills
• Ability to responsive customer service skills when interacting and taking into consideration cultural background, linguistic skills and age of customers
• Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with peers and other interdisciplinary teams
Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: Visual acuity and hand dexterity. Physical ability involves variety of body movements including stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking, twisting, stretching and reaching. Physical ability involves pushing, pulling and lifting more than 30 lbs.
