GENERAL SUMMARY
The Employee Relations Specialist III serves as a senior-level expert, managing complex employee relations issues and providing advanced guidance to managers and employees. This role ensures compliance with labor laws, mitigates organizational risks, and fosters a fair and modern workplace. This role supports the hospital’s commitment to fostering a positive and productive work environment by addressing workplace concerns effectively and promoting fair practices. The specialist is instrumental in developing and implementing employee relations strategies and initiatives that align with the hospital’s mission, vision, and operational goals. Reports Employee Relations Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Lead investigations into high-risk or complex employee relations issues, including harassment, discrimination, and policy violations.
+ Partner with legal counsel and compliance teams to address sensitive cases and mitigate risks.
+ Provide expert advice to managers on performance management, terminations, and conflict resolution.
+ Analyze employee relations trends and provide actionable recommendations to leadership.
+ Develop and review policies and procedures to ensure compliance with employment laws and organizational standards.
+ Conduct training sessions for managers on best practices for employee relations and legal compliance.
+ Serve as a mentor and resource for more junior team members and other HR colleagues.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

+ Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
+ Certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
+ Required Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
+ 5-15 years of experience in employee relations or human resources (minimum of 5 years of directly employee relations experience).
+ Preferred Education and Experience
+ 15+ years of experience in employee relations or human resources.
+ Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ In-depth knowledge of all relevant federal and state employment laws and regulations.
+ Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills.
+ Strong conflict resolution and mediation abilities.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
+ Ability to influence and build trust with employees and leadership.
+ Effective time management and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities.
+ Experience with data analysis and reporting to identify and act on trends and areas of greatest need across assigned areas of the organization.
+ Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant technology.
WORKING CONDITIONS
+ Work is performed in an office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.
+ This position requires presence in-office in Norfolk, VA during regular business hours.
