    Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Phonological Development, Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science, College of Arts and Sciences

     

    The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor, Tenure-track, in phonological development. The position is expected to begin on August 16, 2025. Applicants for this position should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Psychology or a related field. The Ph.D. must be in hand prior to the start of the appointment. We seek individuals who demonstrate the drive and vision to develop an innovative, cutting edge and internationally recognized research program in phonological development. The successful candidate is expected to teach graduate level language acquisition and phonology courses, as well as undergraduate courses on first language development. The candidate is expected to teach a subset of the following courses: Introduction to Linguistics, Science of Language, Introduction to Phonology, First Language Acquisition, Second Language Acquisition, graduate level phonology, and Acquisition of Phonology. They will also be expected to offer graduate seminars in areas of their specialization. Other duties include supervision of graduate students, undergraduate advising, involvement in curricular development, and performance of service at departmental, college and university levels. The candidate will be leading the Phonology Laboratory. It is desirable that applicants will be likely to attract significant external grants to fund their research.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking an exceptional candidate in Phonological Development. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related field, have a strong research program in Phonological Development, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in phonology, language acquisition, and general linguistics.

     

    Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at UD: TheDepartment of Linguistics and Cognitive Science (http://lingcogsci.udel.edu) at the University of Delaware is within the College Arts and Sciences. The department runs an internationally renowned Ph.D. program in Linguistics, a Master’s degree program in Linguistics and Cognitive Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Cognitive Science, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics. The department also offers, via a university-wide Cognitive Science Committee, an interdisciplinary certificate in Cognitive Science as part of graduate degrees across schools and departments. The department is part of a university-wide Cognitive Science community and participates in a newInterdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Neuroscience (https://www.udel.edu/academics/colleges/grad/prospective-students/programs/interdisciplinary/interdisciplinary-neuroscience/) which the candidate can engage in. The department also has ties to theDepartment of Communication Sciences and Disorders (https://www.udel.edu/academics/colleges/chs/departments/cscd) . Research can also be conducted at the University of Delaware Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging (https://cbbi.udel.edu) , an 11,600 square foot research facility houses a Siemens 3T Magnetom Prisma scanner, equipped with state-of-the-art MR-compatible visual and auditory stimulation equipment, eye-tracking, response devices, and physiological measurement hardware.

     

    The College of Arts and Sciences (https://www.cas.udel.edu/) at the University of Delaware offers exceptional educational experiences including integrated instruction, research and public engagement.
