Day Camp Program Details
+ The 2025 Day Camp Program will run from June 25th - August 29th. Training will take place for hired staff during the week leading up to the start of camp.
+ The 2025 Day Camp Program hours will be Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Staff hours are expected to be Monday - Friday, 8:45 AM - 4:45 PM.
+ There are four (4) 2025 Day Camp positions available.
About the Position
Under supervision, this position is responsible for assisting in providing the planning, organization, and implementation of effective, healthy, and safe school-aged youth recreation and instruction programs to include but not limited to in a classroom-like environment, and other day camp recreation activities. Candidate should have strong organizational, leadership and communication skills with a commitment to providing quality recreation and instruction activities to each and every youth participant.
New hires generally start between $18.79 and $20.72. Placement within the position's full wage scale is based on qualification and professional experience. The full wage scale for this position is based on:
+ Hourly Pay Grade H-7. Between $18.79 and $22.85 per hour

The City of Edmonds Parks, Recreation & Cultural Human Department serves as the community's key resource for providing parks, recreation and aquatic programs, maintaining parks, trails, open space and recreation facilities, street and public area landscapes, supporting culture and arts tourism, economic development and enhanced quality of life for its citizens and visitors. The City owns, operates, and maintains 47 parks and open space consisting of more than 230 acres, with 20,000 square feet of flower beds and a mile of shoreline, which is all maintained by Edmonds Parks Maintenance Division.

Edmonds provides a full range of services, including contracted fire services, police services a municipal court, a community pool, a regional performing arts facility, public works and utilities, a regional wastewater treatment facility, along with community events and services through our Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department. Six department directors report directly to the Mayor and oversee approximately 279 full–time-equivalent employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Assist with and lead youth recreation programs.
+ Support classroom-like operations
+ Provide leadership and effective problem-solving skills.
+ Communicate with participants and guardians in a manner that favorably represents the City of Edmonds.
+ Monitor the safety of children.
+ Handle minor emergent situations that may arise as per city policy.
+ Assist with site operations as outlined in the program handbook.
+ Complete reports and file paperwork as needed.
+ Open and close facility as assigned.
+ Understand and follow current recreational department procedures.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned that are within the scope of this position classification.
Work is generally performed Monday through Friday and the incumbent may be assigned to either morning, afternoon shifts, or full day shifts as needed for the purpose of the program.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
+ Must be 16 years of age or older.
+ Prior experience working with school-aged children is preferred.
+ One year of experience leading or teaching school-aged youth programs such as day camp or day care is preferred.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
+ Current CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogen Certification or ability to obtain by start date.
+ A criminal background check is required following a verbal offer of employment. Criminal history is not an automatic employment disqualifier. Results are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Temporary, non-regular part time, and seasonal employees are ineligible for benefits other than WA State Paid Sick Leave, which accrues at the rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Some exceptions apply to certain seasonal positions that may be union-eligible following a certain number of hours worked.
The City of Edmonds follows the ACA required measurement and administration periods for all non-benefited employees in order to determine future eligibility as required by law.
