    A Brief Overview

     

    The Accountant I will ensure the accurate and timely completion of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position requires the ability to manage strict deadlines, work independently and own one’s work product.

    What you will do

    + Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and departments. Prepare and post journal entries, perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and maintain logical, organized workpapers to support general ledger accounts.

    + Perform monthly financial statement & budget trend analyses and communicate results to Controller. Identify, research and solve accounting issues as applicable.

    + Provide periodic financial information to Chief Financial Officer, Controller & Manager of Accounting in order to manage the day to day operations of the Health System. Assist with necessary day to day operations of the Finance department as applicable.

    + Maintain general ledger system understanding and test system upgrades as applicable.

    + Prepare and submit monthly sales tax returns.

    + Communicate with external financial statement auditors as applicable.

    + Educate department managers and organizational leaders on general ledger structure and appropriate expense classification.

    + Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and conduct business in an ethical and professional manner.

    + Update and maintain job knowledge through educational opportunities, development of professional networks and participation in professional organizations.

    + Contribute to departmental and organizational special projects as assigned.

    Education Qualifications

    + Associate's Degree Accounting, Finance or Business Administration Required

    + Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Finance or Business Administration Preferred

    Experience Qualifications

    + A minimum of 2 years accounting experience Required

    + Healthcare specific experience Preferred

    Skills and Abilities

    + Strong organizational skills required.

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint).

    + Ability to work independently or in a team setting.

    + Able to multitask and manage strict deadlines.

    + Ability to apply critical thinking skills on a regular basis.
