    Department Summary

    The only comprehensive accredited journalism program in the Pacific Northwest, the School of Journalism and Communication offers majors in advertising, journalism, media studies, and public relations. The school offers Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Media Studies and professional master's degrees in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, Strategic Communication, and Immersive Media. As a community of media and communication scholars, journalists, strategic communicators, and content producers, we believe in the importance of diverse representation, inclusion, and anti-oppression as vital components of education and communication. With more than 2,200 students, SOJC is one of six professional schools at UO. The SOJC aims to foster responsible citizens, scholars, and innovative professionals who understand the value, richness, and strength of a diverse community.

    Position Summary

    The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) seeks applicants for its open instruction pool in Portland. The pool is for part-time, temporary, limited-duration teaching appointments with the possibility of renewal for up to three years.

     

    SOJC Portland is a community of scholars and professionals dedicated to freedom of expression and public service. By integrating theory and practice, we prepare students to become professional communicators, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens in a global society. SOJC Portland's professional master's include degrees in Multimedia Journalism, Strategic Communication, and Immersive Media. We seek instructors with expertise in video/audio production, public relations, and digital and immersive media. Successful candidates will have professional experience related to a field in the School of Journalism and Communication, demonstrated ability of quality teaching, and a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

     

    Screening of applications will take place as positions become available and will continue until positions are filled. Some courses may have the option to be remote/hybrid depending on programmatic needs and field of study.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master's degree (in exceptional circumstances, significant professional experience may substitute for an advanced degree).

    Professional Competencies

    • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

    • Substantial professional experience in the subject to be taught.

    • Experience teaching in a classroom setting, creating and delivering training programs, or other related experience in instruction.

    • Understanding of, and commitment to, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and diversity practices.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development and instruction.

    • Experience collaborating and maintaining partnerships within the professional field
