    Postdoctoral Research Fellow

    Job Summary

Under the aegis of a DoD ONR MURI grant that has Prof. Vijay Subramanian as PI and other external collaborators as Co-PIs, we're offering Postdoctoral Associate positions designed for recent graduates of Ph.D. programs working at the intersection of Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science, and Economics.

The duties and expectations of this position include conducting research on topics related to the DoD ONR MURI grant, whose title is "New Game Theory for New Agents: Foundations and Learning Algorithms for Decision-Making Mixed-Agents." Your research would focus on theory and algorithms for learning and decision-making in multi-agent systems. Some of your research may be in collaboration with the external collaborators on the MURI. You may also participate in preparation of technical papers and reports related to your research, collaboration with other members of Prof. Vijay Subramanian's research group or other Co-PI's research groups engaged in related research, and in mentoring and supervising undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research activities. We are particularly interested in candidates with interest in algorithms, causal inference, stochastic control, game theory, learning, machine learning, reinforcement learning, market design, networks, and applied probability, but all subjects at the intersection of these scientific disciplines as broadly relevant to the project are invited to apply.

Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. prior to beginning of their appointment as a Postdoctoral Associate and are expected to have a strong research and publication record. Postdoctoral Associates are expected to be employed at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor---be primarily present on the Ann Arbor campus in-person, contribute to research and publications, and participate in seminars and conferences at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Associates are strongly urged to have the Ann Arbor area as their primary residence. As an important component of the appointment is collaborations with the other team members on this project---the Co-PIs and their research groups---, so depending on the specific research projects initiated an expectation will also be for the Postdoctoral Associate to spend significant time at the home institution of the collaborating Co-PIs.

The Postdoctoral Associates will start their appointment in the Fall of 2025 or sooner depending on their availability for a duration of one year; Postdoctoral Associates may apply for a second year of support. The Postdoctoral Associates will receive a salary of 65,000 USD per year plus University of Michigan benefits, and office space.

All applications should include the following:

+ A cover letter indicating your interest in the position

    + CV

+ Job Market Paper or at least one scholarly writing sample (in English)

    + A research agenda (3 pages max)

    + Ph.D. program transcript

+ Two or three letters of recommendation

If you have specific questions about the position for which you are applying, please contact the PI at [email protected] .
