The CNC Programmer / Operator at Nomad GCS is responsible for the managing, programming, operation and maintenance of computer numeric controlled (CNC) equipment for prototype (first run) and production of parts within the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITY:
+ Primarily responsible for programming and operating CNC laser sheet cutter and CNC laser tube cutter.
+ Serve as a backup operator for CNC router.
+ Implement and operate future CNC equipment, such as CNC mill and lathe.
+ Review electronic or printed drawings.
+ Work with other team members, including CNC operators, technicians, and engineers to determine project scope, schedule and important job details.
+ Determine laser parameters and components, methods, tooling, feeds, speeds and all other necessary requirements necessary for manufacturing of parts.
+ Keep supervisor informed of operations, problems, and opportunities as they arise.
+ Maintain appropriate records and documentation.
+ Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
+ Use computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly.
+ Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
+ Study drawings and specifications and determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
+ Verify compliance of finished workpiece to specifications.
+ Identify and troubleshoot worn tooling, troubleshoot alignment issues, and quality-related issues.
+ Be willing to work irregular hours to accommodate manufacturing schedules if asked.
+ Take on additional duties as assigned.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE DESIRED:
+ Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
+ Experience with one or more of the following software: AlmaCAM cut and/or AlmaCAM Tube, MasterCAM, SigmaTek, Metallix.
+ Machine shop and welding knowledge.
+ Demonstrate understanding and application of Nomad Core Values.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
+ Regular use of hands and arms to manipulate, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
+ Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and crawling.
+ Frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Assistance required for anything heavier than 50 pounds.
+ Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors.
+ Must have the physical stamina to work in awkward positions and stand for prolonged periods.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
+ Partially environmentally controlled indoor area with temperatures fluctuating between 60°F and 100°F, typically maintained around 70°F.
+ Occasional outdoor work required.
+ Exposure to noise levels ranging from low to loud; safety hearing devices provided as needed.
+ Possible exposure to household and commercial chemicals; adherence to safety protocols outlined in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) required.
+ Mandatory wearing of OSHA-approved safety eyewear and closed-toed shoes at all times on the production floor.
+ Use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators or protective coveralls, may be necessary for specific tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
+ High school diploma or GED; college degree or 2+ years in vocational education in CNC machining preferred.
+ Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in programming and operating CNC equipment.
+ Mechanically inclined, strong problem-solving skills, hands-on individual.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
