    + Introduction

     

    The State of Connecticut (https://portal.ct.gov/) , Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP (https://portal.ct.gov/deep) ) has an exciting opportunity for Seasonal Resource Assistants (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=3492VR&R1=undefined&R3=undefined) to work with the Environmental Conservation Police, Communications Office. This office provides a public answering point for all DEEP programs including law, wildlife and fisheries and dispatch services for all DEEP programs throughout the State of Connecticut. These positions are located at the DEEP communications dispatch center in Hartford or Marlborough.

    Position highlights

    These positions are strictly office work but is quite diverse in its scope. You will answer questions on the phone about nuisance and distressed wildlife and also providing assistance to the public with nuisance and distressed wildlife or determining who would best assist the caller. You will also assist in answering non-emergency calls and updating departmental web page and electronic notification systems. Additional administrative duties related to inventory and equipment may be required.

     

    + Up to 40 hours per week , lasting no longer than 6 months or a total of 1,040 hours.

    Responsibilities of these roles include:

    + Answering phone calls covering questions concerning hunting and fishing laws and nuisance and distressed wildlife concerns and determining where to forward calls, depending on the questions asked;

    + Providing support and assistance to other EnCon Police Division and other DEEP programs;

    + Various clerical duties, such as entering data using a variety of computer programs and updating notification systems such as everbridge.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Ability to follow instructions.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Knowledge of nuisance and distressed wildlife;

    + Working knowledge of wildlife management practices and the natural history of Connecticut fauna;

    + Experience with hunting and trapping laws;

    + Experience providing customer service, including over the phone;

    + Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access;

    + Experience in wildlife interpretation.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.

    + Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:

    + Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.

    + Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.

    + College training in a specific field.

    + Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific state facilities.

    + Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.

    + Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
