    The Imaging Navigator will assist the Hampton Roads Women’s Imaging program and its patients. The Navigator provides guidance to breast health patients for their imaging needs and assists with imaging appointments, breast health education and emotional comfort. The Imaging Navigator will track all patient result outcomes and provide specific medical outcome audits. The Navigator also covers the screening and diagnostic exams and performs high quality imaging and follows guidelines as established by the ARRT, VDH, MQSA and ACR. Performs all diagnostic and screening mammography, according to established policy and procedure for interpretation and subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician. The technologist will rotate between the Hampton Roads Women’s Imaging Centers as needed with Navigation duties as primary function.

     

    This role will cover three locations during the week: Millie Lancaster, Ghent, and the new Women's Imaging Center - Portsmouth (no weekends or holidays)

     

    Essential Job Functions

     

    Track and record all mammography result outcomes. Contact and schedule patients with doctor recommended additional imaging or breast biopsy. Correlation and Pathology with doctors. Facilitate localization procedures for surgery patients. Assist Women’s Imaging Supervisor/ Lead TECH/ with FDA, ACR Inspections as needed. Coordinates with surgical office imaging needs and MRI Breast procedures. Obtain all orders for imaging procedures.

     

    Provide patient comfort and education regarding the need for additional imaging or other requested testing.

     

    Facilitate interaction and communication with health care staff and providers regarding written orders and medication interruption.

     

    Performs high quality diagnostic and screening mammogram for breast imaging. Coordination of appointments for physicians’ offices to Breast Imaging sites. Coordination of ordering surgical specimen for OR imaging. Coordinates all outside imaging. Consent and History from patients Interventional Breast procedures. Navigation identify need of ordering RPMI solution for testing for lymphadenopathy.

     

    Ensures orders are received for all imaging to be completed. Obtains history for exams, explains exams and addresses any patient questions or concerns. Developing of informational packets for patients prior to exam.

     

    Operates imaging equipment in the prescribed manner by using appropriate settings, controls, and protocols for screening and diagnostic mammograms.

     

    Assists physicians in procedures ensuring sterile technique is adhered to and ensures informed consent obtained by the performing physician. Liaison with histology/pathology team for Radiologist for RAD path correlations. Communicates procedure schedule to technologists and Radiologists via departmental white board. PACS Superuser, Power share and Nucleus IO for images. Utilization of Workday and Dimensions.

     

    Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality, completeness and ensures quality images. Completes all paperwork timely and uses PACS to send images for interpretation and storage. Provides service in a timely manner. Contacts service when indicated. Orders and stocks supply/linen. Assists with QA as assigned.

     

    Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

     

    Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature and in-services. Maintains continuing education credits to meet licensure standards for ARRT, ACR and MQSA.

     

    IV. Employment Qualifications

     

    Education Qualifications - List the minimum education, training, and experience required to perform the essential functions of the position.

     

    Required Minimum Education: Vocational/ Technical Degree

     

    Specialty/Major: Radiologic Technology

     

    Preferred Education: Associate’s Radiologic Technology

     

    Licensing/ Certification - If registration, certification or licensure is required, include the name of the accrediting or licensing body.

     

    Licensure/Certification Required: ARRT, CPR, (BLS), Mammography registered

    Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 3-5 years previous Mammography experience

     

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Must be able to work independently, take initiative and communicate easily and openly with peers.
