Responsibilities:

+ Procure appropriate blood specimens using venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick techniques.

+ Instruct patients on collection procedures for self-collected laboratory specimens and collect other types of samples as needed.

+ Transport specimens from collection areas to the laboratory while following established safety procedures.

+ Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers; respond to telephone inquiries promptly.

+ Demonstrate reliability and independent judgment, prioritizing tasks to meet departmental needs and accepting appropriate authority.

+ Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, and personnel policies.

+ Perform documentation duties, including entering demographic information, test orders, and managing sample data using computer systems.

+ Train and orient new employees, students, and residents; inform technical staff and supervisors of unusual incidents.

Required

+ High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred

+ Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program

+ Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy

+ Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience

+ Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

+ Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

+ Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

+ Act 33 with renewal

+ Act 34 with renewal

+ Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
