    Position Objective:

    This position is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director – Security Networks in the oversight and maintenance of the various networks and systems that support the Safety and Security Departments. This includes support for various new fire alarm systems and future integrations of security systems at multiple stations and three new additional stations. This position will also provide direct support to the Customer Service Initiative Stations and the All-Agency Electronics Security Program at various locations throughout the territory. The position will partner with and collaborate with the MTA IT and Cybersecurity teams to maintain update and protect all systems. Will be required to interact with various MTA Agencies. Will be required to compile and provide information to EAM on MNR Security Systems and Fire Alarms throughout the territory.

    Responsibilities:

    + Assist in providing security system information, system provisioning and modifications to Metro-North’s Security Systems, including switches, servers, video management, and access control. This includes documentation using various MS Office products such as Word, Excel, and Visio as well as configuration and management within Active Directory.

    + Provide support necessary to implement upgrades, replacements, and modifications to the Metro-North Security System. Work with MTA IT to research software and firmware versions that are applicable with the existing technologies for the various systems to stay current with cybersecurity requirements.

    + Work with MTA IT to perform security network and server monitoring, configuration management, and backup. Monitoring through Solarwinds, Alarm Monitor, and Genetec Health Dashboard. Daily backup and management through ReadyNAS Storage Server.

    + Provide engineering expertise and recommendations in collaboration with and direction from MTA IT regarding appropriate equipment for the Security Systems including Genetec and Lenel. This includes but is not limited to servers, storage equipment, and panels.

    + Assist in the establishment of standards, procedures, and training necessary for successful application and network deployment.

    Required Qualifications:

    Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    + Strong working knowledge of Security Systems, including Genetec and Lenel.

    + Strong knowledge and experience in server integration.

    + Familiarity with virtualization technology.

    + Experience with Windows system administration.

    + Familiarity with network management software, tools , and protocols.

    + Familiarity with Fire Alarm Systems.

    + Strong analytical skills in order to analyze new and existing products, equipment , and /or procedures.

    + Must be able to recommend improvements or replacements to better support the security network.

    + Must be able to work in a high-profile/high-pressure environment.

    + Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with internal departments and outside agencies.

    + Must be able to implement and participate in Metro-North Railroad Priority One Safety Program.

    + Must be able to work outside of normal working hours as needed to support maintenance and construction project a s.

    + Must be available to work 24 hours 7 days a week as required.

    + Must have Genetec and Lenel Certifications.

    + Valid driver’s license required.

    Required Education and Experience:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering , or a related field or demonstrated equivalent experience, education , and/or technical credentials may be considered in place of degree.

    + Minimum of three (3) years of experience in all aspects of digital data communications including experience with management and maintenance of Security Systems .

    + Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing professional staff/diverse workforce and/or projects.

    The following is/are preferred, but other satisfactory combinations of relevant experience, education, and/or technical credentials will be considered:

    + Familiarity with Metro-North policies and procedures.

    + Familiarity with Metro-North's collective bargaining agreements (IBEW and ARSA)

    This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.

     

    According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).

     

    Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
