    WHAT WILL YOU DO AS A PHLEBOTOMIST/ SPECIMEN PROCESSOR II AT ELLIS MEDICINE?

     

    The Phlebotomist performs blood specimen collection, both venous and capillary procedures on inpatients and outpatients. Performs EKG’s as needed. They are also responsible for identifying, processing, and distributing all laboratory specimens according to laboratory standards.

     

    + Perform mini-registration using Hospital Information System (HIS)

    + Perform specimen preparation/processing to include batching specimens, centrifuging, decanting, and relabeling

    + Process Laboratory Reference Miscellaneous testing specimens

    + Perform proficiently in the Ellis Laboratory campus triage and fast track workstations

    + Perform Outpatient EKG’s as required

    + Perform verification of inpatient laboratory specimens

    + Perform batching and un-batching of outpatient laboratory specimens

    + Perform Phlebotomy at Nursing Homes as required

    + Perform Phlebotomy for Ellis Home Draw population as required

    + Order Laboratory tests using current Laboratory Information System (LIS)

     

    WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE PHLEBOTOMIST/SPECIMEN PROCESSOR II AT ELLIS MEDICINE?

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):

    + High school graduate or equivalent.

    + Some phlebotomy experience preferred-On the job training is offered

     

    Skills and Abilities

     

    + Independent, mature, self-motivated, reliable, and responsible

    + Able to serve the needs of patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric.

    + Able to deal with all types of customers in a pleasant, professional manner.

    + Able to handle numerous tasks simultaneously in an organized manner.

    + Able to independently perform assigned duties in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

    + Proficient use of telephone, computer, copier machine, fax machine, equipment related to specific testing duties

    Physical Requirements:

    + The ability to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination, such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance. Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

    Salary Range: $16.63-24.11/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
