    Salary Range: $39.93-$55.07

     

    Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

    Position Summary:

    + This position reports to the Director of Rehabilitation Services.

    + Provide differential diagnostic and therapeutic services by assessing and treating inpatients and outpatients with central or peripheral disorders of speech, language, voice and/or swallowing.

    + Demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing systems; expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical; treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.

    + Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life-span and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

    + Is able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age-specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group.

    + Must supervisor department staff in absence of department director.

    + Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.

    + Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors.

    Position Duties/Responsibility:

    + Defines patient’s degree and type of speech, language, voice and swallowing impairment by selecting and administering the most appropriate test instruments; preparing written diagnostic reports.

    + Counsels patients and their families by informing them about available treatment options. Minimizes delays in diagnosis and/or therapeutic intervention by coordinating and prioritizing the patient caseload.

    + Improves the function of patients with speech, language, voice and/or swallowing impairments by planning treatment.

    + Modifies therapy program by periodically re-evaluating therapy goals.

    + Improves quality results by studying, evaluating and re-designing processes and implementing changes.

    + Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by developing policy concerning federal, state and local regulations and JACHO standards; anticipating emerging issues.

    + Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal and professional networks; participating in professional organizations.

    + Enhances speech pathology and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different request; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

    + Maintains patient confidence by keeping information confidential.

    + Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

    + Complies with federal, state and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation.

    + Patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

    + Position Competencies.

    Essential Functions:

    + The ability to maintain a valid California Speech and Language License

    + The ability to maintain a valid California driver’s license and be insurable through the District’s carrier.

    + The ability to participate in all elements of performing Speech and Language job duties.

    + The ability to use applicable equipment and instruments.

    + The ability to keyboard and use various computer programs.

    + The ability to be supervised.

    + The ability to work as a Team.

    + The ability to have positive personal interactions with staff, patients/residents and visitors.

    Position Qualifications:

    + Education: Current California Speech Language Pathology License.

    + Experience: One year acute or OP Rehabilitative experience, new graduate may be considered.

    + Cert/License: Current/valid California Speech and Language License, CPR Certification required from the American Heart Association and California Drivers license.

    + Skills/Ability: Knowledge of speech and language treatment to patients of all ages. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exhibits the ability to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy; exercise good judgment; demonstrate initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.

    + LVMC reserves the right to modify the minimum requirements depending on the needs of the organization.
