Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor, a term faculty position in Special Education beginning August 16, 2025. We seek a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague who will collaborate with special education faculty and other SOE colleagues in developing rich and rigorous special education learning experiences and contribute expertise in behavior disorders and/or learning disabilities. Building on these strengths, the SOE is committed to increasing its academic excellence of faculty and students.
The person selected for this position will have strong knowledge of special education and evidence of effective teaching. Position responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in special education and collaborating with special education faculty in professional service and outreach activities. Candidates may teach in-person, hybrid, online, and/or evening courses. Candidates holding a doctoral degree will have opportunities to teach graduate courses and serve on Master’s and PhD student committees. Initial appointment length is two years. Renewal parameters are determined by performance and department needs. The normal teaching responsibility for term faculty is 12 credits per semester.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in special education or closely related field
+ Completion of a teacher preparation program
+ Two academic years of full-time successful special education teaching experience in PK-12 educational settings
Preferred Qualifications:
+ An earned doctorate degree in special education or a closely related field
+ Teaching experience in elementary or middle school classrooms
+ Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: assessment and intervention for behavioral disorders, children’s mental health issues, or academic areas (reading, mathematics, written language); assistive technology
