Physician Assistant Studies Program
The WSU PAS program is one of 6 health professional education programs in the Health Sciences Department of the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Since the program’s inception in 1996, we have grown into an established urban-based education and training program, focused on the development of highly competent and deeply committed physician assistants. This is implemented through a 24-month long curriculum which emphasizes the practical and policy issues of: health promotion and disease prevention; primary care delivery in inner city and urban medically underserved areas, and the delivery of care to populations with special needs. The program has consistently sustained continued accreditation through ARC-PA and has maintained an excellent first time pass rates on the PANCE.
Essential Functions (Job Duties)
The Assistant Professor (Clinical)/Clinical Coordinator will:
•Teach and coordinate courses and educational interactions within the clinical year curriculum commensurate with education, training and expertise
•Develop and maintain course syllabi and educational materials ensuring compliance with educational objectives of the program and ARC-PA standards
•Be assigned other teaching responsibilities or coordination within the program/department/college as necessary pertinent to demands of PAS curriculum and as time allows considering primary clinical coordination responsibilities
•Provide academic advisement to students
•Interview and assist in assessment and selection of program applicants
•Demonstrate initial development of scholarship and research interest and productivity
•Participate in program committees at the Program, Department, and College levels commensurate with level of expertise and rank
•Participates in Program generated community service projects as assigned
•Attends and participates in Program, Department and College meetings on a regular basis
Unique duties:
The Assistant Professor (Clinical)/ Clinical Coordinator will: Work in partnership with the Director of Clinical Education and Program Specialist to fulfill all responsibilities pertaining to the clinical year. Duties shall be delineated by expertise, experience and desire to fulfill said responsibility. Coordinate and schedule clinical rotations for all students; both weekly didactic year patient encounter site-visits as well as the monthly clinical year student rotations. Maintain, foster and develop professional working relationships with preceptors, medical education administrators, alumni and other external agencies. Assist the Director of Clinical Education to ensure the day-to-day activities of the Clinical Year are satisfied, including: student clinical rotation required paperwork; communications from students, preceptors and associated staff pertaining to the clinical year; proctoring exams and OSCEs; establishing and maintaining affiliation agreements; etc. Develop, maintain and administrate evaluation tools to assess student learning. Track student data using various online monitoring program. Conduct clinical site visits.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should meet the following qualifications:
•Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited PA program. Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) or equivalent based on experience and level of professional involvement
•In good standing with the Michigan licensing board for Physician Assistant's. Must have current NCCPA certification
•2-3 years full-time clinical experience as a Physician Assistant
•Higher education experience, teaching, coordinating coursework and/or precepting PA students
•House sound interpersonal communication skills necessary to negotiate, maintain and develop preceptor/community involvement
•Highly motivated and innovative individual
Preferred qualifications:
The highly successful candidate may also meet the following qualifications: •5+ years full-time clinical experience as a Physician Assistant •2+ years of experience coordinating clinical rotations •2-3 years of higher education experience, teaching and/or coordinating coursework •Leadership accolades
