    Job Summary:

    Collaborates with the health care team to provide social, emotional, and developmental support during a pediatric patient's illness and hospitalization.

    Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Provides educational preparation to patients and families prior to potential anxiety provoking tests, procedures, or events through the use of explanation, hands on materials, and medical play.

    + Supplies a caring and secure atmosphere for patients and their families in pediatrics.

    + Collaborates with the health care team to plan appropriate interventions.

    + Develops and/or participates in outreach and educational activities to teach families, staff, and the community about issues and services related to ill and hospitalized children.

    + Acts as a resource for families and the health care team regarding child development including behavior modification and compliance issues.

    + Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION

    + Bachelor's degree in Child Life Human Development or related field

    EXPERIENCE

    + No experience required

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Frequent reaching, sitting, standing and walking.

    + Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).

    + Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

    + Frequent keyboard use/data entry.

    + Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, twisting and gripping.

    + Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

    + Occasional use of vision to identify and distinguish colors.

    + Occasional driving.

    + Rare repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements and squatting.

    REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

    Resuscitation Certification Requirement: Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) required within 90 day of employment. Other resuscitation certifications may be required dependent on department.
