This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a System Operator I Dispatcher for our Long Island - Hauppauge, NY office. Be involved in projects with our Mobility Operations Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
The preferred dispatcher will be required to work weekday (Monday – Friday) mornings (6 AM to 10 AM) and evenings (3 PM to 7 PM) during HELP Highway Emergency Local Patrol operational periods. The dispatcher is required to keep in constant communication with HELP drivers and maintains detailed records of conversations showing when each driver began their patrol, took breaks, and ended patrol. The System Operator 1 Dispatcher will provide any additional information to assist with analysis to the HELP Program Administrator.
The successful candidate must be willing to work split shifts Monday through Friday along with any additional shifts as needed including overnights, weekends and holidays.
Your Impact
+ Operate various computer-based traffic & freeway management systems to manage incidents on roadways and improve traffic conditions
+ Operate and enter incidents into the TMC’s advanced traffic management system (ATMS) and the H.E.L.P dispatch log
+ Monitor HELP program truck cameras, CCTV displays, and system maps for incidents
+ Use standard operating procedures to detect, dispatch, monitor and document roadway incident
+ Perform record keeping of all requests, stops, and services of HELP Drivers
+ Response of any inquiries regarding policy, procedural explanations, or explanations of inspectors' actions and decisions
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
+ High School diploma or equivalent
+ Oral and written communication
+ Computer/Software – including MS Office applications, spreadsheets and databases
+ Public, internal and external relations (works well with internal, external and partner groups and individuals)
+ Analytical and organizational skills
+ Dispatch experience
+ Strong attention to detail
+ Ability to professionally interact with co-workers and client staffIn-depth knowledge of local roadways
+ Ability to perform with minimal supervision
+ Ability to multi-task and remain calm during high pressure situations
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
+ Applicants must be able to pass a background/criminal history check
Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary: $33,200 - $54,780
