TDA Research, Inc. is located outside Denver, Colorado with locations in Golden.  We have a staff of 130+ mainly engineers and scientists who develop cutting edge chemical processes, materials, and hardware for customers in the defense, aerospace, energy and chemical industries. Virtually all staff work on two or three projects simultaneously, therefore, an ability to learn quickly is essential.  We rely on a high level of technical competence and efficiency within our team and look for motivated, talented, and skilled innovators to join us in developing advanced solutions.

TDA carries out R&D in catalysis and adsorption, chemistry, medical devices, aerospace components, and personal protective equipment. TDA’s objective is to carry out research that leads to commercial products; several products that are the result of our research have gone into production or large-scale use, and others are nearing commercialization.

TDA is searching for a full-time Patent Agent to support TDA’s efforts to acquire and maintain intellectual property protection. This role will report to VP of Research to coordinate company strategy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

+ Discuss potential inventions with scientists and engineers

+ Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications and invention disclosures

+ Prepare and file responses to office actions with the USPTO

+ Conduct preliminary patentability searches and competitive IP landscape assessments

+ Provide guidance on IP matters, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets

+ Maintain the docketing database and calendar

+ Track deadlines, confirm filings, and generate reports detailing action items and due dates

+ Maintain detailed records

+ Assist contracts/legal department in government IP reporting

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

+ Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering, Chemistry or a related technical field

+ Registered Patent Agent with the USPTO

+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably in an R&D focused environment

+ Knowledge of filing practices in the US and International jurisdictions

+ Strong technical knowledge

+ Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook

+ Ability to work independently with minimal direction

+ Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

+ Prior background working in an R&D role would be valuable to relate with scientists, engineers and inventors

+ Prior laboratory or prototyping experience

+ Background in chemistry, materials science, electronics, medical devices, chemical processes, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or electronical engineering would be particularly valuable

+ Prior experience with iEdison

+ Prior experience at a company working on government funded contracts

No sponsorship or relocation available. This is an in-office position, no hybrid or remote.

Annual salary range: $95,000-$120,000 plus the complete benefits package.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors as education, experience, skill-set, and/or location.
