    Position Summary

    The Library Manager of the Division of Graduate Education; Nursing will be pivotal in students’ educational outcomes and faculty and staff publications, ensuring alignment with departmental key performance indicators, goals, and objectives for nursing education. Within the Librarian team, the programmatic role of the faculty and student Librarian is to assist with planning and related support to prepare the graduate nursing education department for the provision of library resources and services in support of the innovative interprofessional nursing program. Support for these programs includes the following responsibilities: instruction, reference, research consultations, collection development, and academic outreach. Additional duties will extend to such areas as research data support for faculty and students, grant assistance for faculty, and other subject liaison assignment(s) within the scope of the MSOM academic programs that intersect with nursing instructional design. The position collaborates with the MSM Library more broadly to support research and data efforts, methods, and tools. The successful candidate will be an experienced librarian with strategic thinking, data analytical skills, and an in-depth understanding of service excellence in relation to academic and clinical education programming.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science ( MLS , MSLS , MLIS . OR MIS ) from an American Library Association accredited program

     

    Experience: 5 years plus experience in an academic or healthcare arena.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Strong knowledge of information management, data management planning, and scholarly communications within the healthcare and academic industries.

    + Excellent communication and presentation skills.

    + Strong self-management and organizational skills.

    + Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

    Job Duties

    Description of Job Duty

    Manages audio-visual media, electronic resources, information technologies, and simulation/AI resources to support reference, research, and collection development in nursing education, clinical practice, and healthcare-related disciplines. This includes nursing databases, clinical decision support tools, virtual patient simulators, and evidence-based practice resources essential for nursing education and professional development.

     

    Design and maintain key information resources in nursing and healthcare disciplines, focusing on clinical data discovery, health information literacy, and library services that support nursing research data management and patient care analysis. This includes evidence-based practice resources, healthcare data repositories, and nursing informatics tools essential for clinical decision-making and quality improvement initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Instruction

     

    + Uses general and subject-specific knowledge and resources, as well as current technologies and appropriate pedagogies, to develop and deliver high-quality instruction to faculty, staff, and students in assigned subject areas;

    + Maintains a strong understanding of the teaching and research needs of emerging nursing programs in order to design new and enhance existing services in anticipation of these needs;

    + Actively engages with faculty, students, and staff to develop strong working relationships and partnerships;

    + Participates fully in the research and teaching initiatives of the libraries, including conducting workshops and training and professional development sessions, as needed, and

    + Actively assists students and faculty in procuring skills in systematic literature searches and reviews

     

    Reference and Research

     

    + Provides general and expert academic discipline-based reference and consultation, research assistance, and course support.

    + Reference service (on-call/virtual reference) as scheduled.

    + Develops and implements creative library services and programs to integrate collections with teaching and research, including maintaining content for the library’s online and lib guides, as needed.

    + Keeps abreast of curricular and programmatic changes in nursing education, clinical practice standards, and healthcare delivery models while following trends in reference and information services within academic health sciences libraries, particularly those supporting nursing programs and healthcare education. and

    + Assesses and evaluates the impact and outcomes of reference/research services and programs in assigned subject areas and implements changes or improvements as necessary.

     

    Collection Development and Information Management

     

    + Works closely with nursing faculty, clinical educators, and healthcare program directors to select, recommend, monitor, evaluate, and manage reference collections and research resources (in all formats), including but not limited to evidence-based practice tools, clinical guidelines, and healthcare databases to meet both educational curricular requirements and

    + Collaborates on shared library initiatives while working interprofessionally to establish and achieve annual nursing program goals and strategic initiatives that support educational excellence.

    + Monitors trends and maintains current expertise in nursing and healthcare databases, publisher/vendor resources, intellectual access tools, diverse resource formats, and library information technologies to ensure optimal access to health sciences information and

    + Proactively supports initiatives in open access and sustainable collections, open science, and open data.

     

    Scholarly Communication, Outreach, and Engagement

     

    + Proactively supports users on scholarly communication models and promotes the use of open-access sources and tools to faculty, students, and researchers.

    + Helps users find, manage, and critically evaluate information and data, as well as affiliated research tools, platforms, and infrastructure.

    + Supports users with data management and data services in assigned fields;

    + Builds internal and external partnerships to support scholarly activities.

    + Promotes library services, resources, and programs to the MSOM community at large

    + Initiates and strengthens communication channels between the library and programs by forming partnerships with faculty and students in assigned academic programs and

    + In collaboration with library colleagues, markets library services and programs at MSOM as appropriate.

     

    Service and Scholarship

     

    + Participates in the MSOM Libraries’ and Department of Nursing governance and recruitment activities.

     

    Other related duties as assigned
