    Summary:

    Functions by virtue of a call to ministry endorsed by own religious denomination or faith group to provide for the emotional and spiritual support of patients, families, employees of The MetroHealth System through listening, counseling, prayer, and conducting religious faith-based and sacramental services. Ministers to people of all faith traditions. Acts as an integral part of the health care team, including interacting with nursing, medical, and support staff to ensure that the appropriate levels of service are met and delivered in a timely manner. Provides spiritual support during evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity, Theology, Arts, or other related field from an accredited theological seminary or university, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below.

    Successfully completed at least 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) approved training site.

    Ecclesiastical standing by a recognized faith denomination or church.

    Basic knowledge of current medical and ethical concerns.

    Ability to minister to people of all ages.

    Ability to relate to people of all faiths and those with no religious affiliation.

    Ability to utilize strong emotional intelligence skills to effectively perceive and react to the emotions of others.

    Ability to work independently, and as a member of a multidisciplinary team and chaplaincy staff.

    Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

    Displays sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, gender, and racial backgrounds.

    Preferred:

    Master’s Degree (e.g. Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Theology (MTh), etc.) from an accredited theological seminary or university.

    Ecclesiastical endorsement (e.g. Ordination, Commissioned, or Licensed) by a faith denomination or church.

    Experience as a Chaplain in a health care pastoral care program.

    Physical Requirements:

    May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.

    May need to sit or stand for extended periods.

    See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

    Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

    Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.

    May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion.

    Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.

    Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
