The William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics (A&A) within the College of Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a **Program Manager** , Space Grant. The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics offers the only aerospace degree program in the Pacific Northwest, a region whose aerospace industry has been a major contributor to the technological development, economic vitality and security of the United States. Our faculty, students and alumni are at the nexus of new space, and are creating the future of automated aerospace manufacturing, novel aerospace materials, and autonomous aerospace systems.
The Program Manager will have primary responsibility for initiating and building the Space Grant student experience. Effectively accomplishing this work requires an in-depth and nuanced understanding of STEM industries, as well as the skills to convey the importance of growing the workforce. Support the new STEM Leadership Collective initiative, using a strength-based approach to cultivate emerging young professionals. The STEM Leadership Collective contributes to the team effort to initiate and maintain statewide long-term relationships with Washington State STEM industry partners to foster student internship placement. A&A Affiliated RSO support including student onboarding and training, regular day-to-day communications, and directing activity to involve appropriate department staff member(s)
This role reports to the Deputy Director for the Washington Space Grant Consortium and also has departmental tasks overseen by the Director of Academic Services for A&A. They participate both as a team member for the Space Grant group within the Department as well as a member of the Academic Services Team for the Department.
Washington Space Grant Consortium (WASG) is an original member of NASA's thirty-five-year-old Space Grant program. WASG's mission state-wide is to enhance higher education opportunities for students who aim to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). At the University of Washington, WASG supports programs such as undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, summer undergraduate research, and student participants in state-wide affiliated institutions.. For over three decades, WASG has demonstrated success in helping more than 90% of our students take their next steps into graduate work or careers in STEM. This position is key to that success through recruiting and mentoring students, coordinating and enhancing STEM opportunities for students (e.g., internships), and organizing career development opportunities for undergraduates.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Program Management and Support
+ Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in STEM student retention and workforce development, providing insights and guidance on best practices and industry trends.
+ Create and maintain annual program plans, progress meetings, and related documents.
+ Participate in strategic planning for a multi-year, multi-million dollar workforce development program.
+ Collaborate with an external evaluator to assess program effectiveness.
+ Assist in interpreting data and key performance metrics to evaluate program success and impact.
+ Manage and maintain an accurate database of the application selection process and year-round participant monitoring.
+ Identify opportunities for process improvement, streamlining workflows, and enhancing program efficiency.
+ Develop budgets, timelines, and communication plans for multiple concurrent projects.Space Grant Student Support
+ Serve as the assigned success coach for Space Grant-funded students.
+ Assist students in setting realistic and achievable goals.
+ Collaborate with students’ academic and faculty advisors to keep them informed about individual students' progress and barriers to success.
+ Manage a strength-based application process.
+ Facilitate scholarship student orientation, follow-up, and grade check.
+ Plan, implement, and engage in student community-building events.
+ Coordinate student retention strategies.
+ Facilitate the annual Summer Undergraduate Research Program.
+ Develop a communication plan and manage periodic updates to Space Grant affiliate institutions students across the state.New Program Development
+ Develop programming to prepare students to secure internships with industry employers and connect industry recruiters to the student talent pool.
+ In partnership with the Space Grant Director and Deputy Director, create, foster, and maintain collaborative working relationships with professional associations and employee resource groups from local STEM employers.
+ Align Space Grant program activities to achieve the workforce development and retention goals.
+ Plan, coordinate, and effectively run meetings, events, and seminars.Department Affiliated Registered Student Organizations (RSOs)
+ Collaborate with department administrator, academic services director, facilities manager, and fiscal team to continuously evolve, document, and communicate department-affiliated RSO guidelines, policies, and procedures.
+ Coordinate orientations and trainings for department-affiliated RSO students, staff, and faculty on department policies and procedures.
+ Serve as department-affiliated RSOs’ main point of contact for the department and regularly bring items to the attention of department staff and faculty where necessary.
+ Manage regular department-affiliated RSO activity, including registration and facilities access processes, coordination of department staff-supported office hours, resource site maintenance, and documentation.
+ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UW Student Activities Office (SAO) guidelines and requirements on Registered Student Organization, and consult the department on best practices when needed.Admin and Evaluation
+ Assist in program evaluation data collection and data file maintenance.
+ Other duties as assigned. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Master’s Degree.
+ 3 years Experience advising. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
+ Demonstrated success in maintaining confidentiality of student records and using discretion when handling sensitive issues.
+ Ability to identify areas for improvement, set priorities, and initiate solutions as a strong individual contributor and collaborative team member.
+ Demonstrated organizational skills including managing multiple tasks while ensuring attention to detail, accuracy, and quality results.
+ Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to student records and information systems, admissions, and registration.
+ Proficiency in standard office software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive, and various web applications like Google Drive.
+ Experience planning in-person or virtual events.
+ Project management experience. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
