    Job Summary

    The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for intensive instruction and/or diagnostic assessments for students at the DuBard School for Language Disorders with oral and/or written language disorders, including the written language disorder of dyslexia, speech disorders and/or hearing impairments.

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Conducts formal and informal assessment and individualized or small-group instruction for individuals with oral and/or written language disorders, speech disorders and/or hearing impairments. Writes therapy plans and collects student data for progress monitoring. Support students with social, emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.

    + Conducts conferences with colleagues, parents, and school district personnel, as appropriate, on issues related to the program, students enrolled and potential enrollees.

    + Supervises and mentors University clinicians, student workers and volunteers in clinical practicum.

    + Writes and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEP) or Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) for students and monitors progress toward goals; writes student reports and maintains student records.

    + Works cooperatively with other staff members to determine appropriate services for students.

    + Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations and other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university

     

    Preparation in implementation of the DuBard Association Method (may be provided upon employment) Mississippi educator licensure.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

     

    + Ability to utilize computer, computer software (word, excel, etc.), copy machine, fax machine

    + Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and discretion when dealing with confidential matters and student files

    + Ability to be compassionate and empathetic while working with a diverse population

    + Ability to be flexible in job assignments

    + Demonstrate timely and effective communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills for dealing with students, parents, staff, persons inquiring about services, and other University personnel and departments

    + Must be reliable, punctual, honest, cooperative, professional, and respectful

    + Organized, detail oriented, and able to multi-task, and skilled managing one’s own time

    + Must demonstrate initiative to learn new skills and maintain thorough knowledge of techniques, procedures, and equipment pertaining to the job.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. CFY candidates are eligible.

     

    Must hold State Certification from the Mississippi Department of Education. Speech-language pathology licensure from the Mississippi Department of Education; licensure from the Mississippi Board of Health required for outclient therapy program; "highly qualified" status under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) regulations may be required.
