    Research Assistant - Biological Sciences

     

    Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedResearch Assistant - Biological Sciencesat its Detroit campus location.

    Essential functions (job duties):

    Maintain zebrafish colony including feeding and husbandry. 1-2 weekend days each month will be

     

    required.

     

    Assist in managing the day-to-day running of the lab.

     

    Supervise undergraduates/work-study students.

     

    Maintain records and logs in compliance with institutional regulations.

     

    Perform behavioral and molecular biology experiments in zebrafish.

     

    Purchasing of lab supplies.

     

    Maintenance of lab equipment

    Qualifications:

    Minimum of a bachelor's degree in the sciences (e.g., biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, chemistry, physics, etc.)

     

    Strong organizational skills.

     

    Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work with people from different backgrounds and countries.

     

    Able to work both independently and with others.

     

    Interest in understanding the biological basis for individual differences in animal behavior.

     

    Comfortable working with animals.

     

    Strong logical and quantitative reasoning skills.

    Preferred qualifications:

    Prior experience working with animals (ideally zebrafish) desirable but not required (you will be trained). Experience and/or interest in computer coding (R, Python, and/or command line). Wet lab research experience. Experience in supervision.
