The University of Washington conducts research on sexually transmitted infections and infectious diseases. Much of this research is undertaken in the Public Health – Seattle & King County Sexual Health Clinic (SHC) at Harborview Medical Center.
The University of Washington Department of Medicine’s** **_Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases_** **has an outstanding opportunity open for a** **_Temporary_** **Research Coordinator.
The Research Coordinator primary role is to manage a portfolio of studies related to STI and HIV undertaken in the SHC, including work related to developing study implementation procedures, recruitment, monitoring study progress, data analysis, and work with the UW institutional review board. Current projects include an NIH-funded study evaluating a Treponema pallidum transcription mediated amplification (TMA) assay for syphilis screening, studies of the microbiome, a discrete choice experiment, and a study evaluating a new treatment regimen for syphilis, and a study of HIV PrEP. Ongoing studies in the SHC change over time and we anticipate that the consultant will support new studies as they start and as other studies end.
This position is essential in coordinating development and implementation of a spectrum of studies, including study subject recruitment, data collection and management processes for research, and program performance evaluation. The work includes working with investigators and other study coordinators to define study implementation processes and develop IRB applications, helping to design and revise data collection tools, conducting data analysis, and report writing for internal and external partners. The coordinator will also be responsible for managing multiple data sets, developing data summaries and reports, analyzing data for manuscripts and helping to prepare manuscripts for publication.
Position Complexities:
This position requires a high degree of autonomy, personal initiative, discretion, and flexibility to develop new study implementation and data collection procedures, manage datasets, develop reports, and oversee QI procedures. The employee in this position must possess knowledge and understanding of the complexities of study implementation, assessment, evaluation, and QI processes. Position complexities include helping to coordinate multiple ongoing studies, work on IRB applications, and working with staff from a variety of studies as well as epidemiologists affiliated with the HIV/STI/HCV epidemiology group at Public Health - Seattle & King County, investigators, and clinical faculty.
This position will report to the PI (Dr. Matthew Golden) and will work with other researchers, clinical faculty, and key staff to successfully implement studies.

**Duties & Responsibilities:** _Coordination and Support of Research Studies (40%)_
• Coordinate the day-to-day activities of multiple research studies, ensuring adherence to study protocols and timelines.
• Assist in the development and refinement of study procedures in collaboration with principal investigators and research teams.
• Prepare and submit IRB applications, modifications, and renewals, acting as a key point of contact for IRB-related communications.
• Recruit and screen study participants, track enrollment progress, and maintain study records.
• Assist in managing participant compensation and reimbursement in compliance with institutional guidelines.
_Data Collection and Management (20%)_
• Support data collection efforts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to research protocols.
• Maintain and update research databases, including data entry, organization, and quality control checks.
• Assist in regulatory documentation management, including IRB approvals, consent forms, and data use agreements.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies regarding data security, confidentiality, and research ethics.
_Data Analysis and Research Support (20%)_
• Assist with basic data analysis, summarizing findings for research teams using appropriate statistical or qualitative methods.
• Generate reports, tables, and figures for study updates, presentations, and manuscripts.
• Contribute to manuscript preparation, including literature reviews, data interpretation, and editing research documents.
• Support research teams in preparing study results for presentations and funding applications.
_Database and Study Management Support (10%)_
• Help develop and maintain data collection systems using tools like REDCap to streamline research workflows.
• Assist in generating automated reports and standardized data summaries.
• Ensure research databases are structured for efficient data entry and retrieval.
_Study Dissemination and Administrative Support (10%)_
• Assist in preparing study findings for reports, presentations, and publications.
• Help review and edit research manuscripts and conference abstracts.
• Support the coordination of research presentations for academic conferences and institutional meetings.
• Provide administrative support for study meetings, scheduling, and documentations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or a science related field. Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement. At least two years of experience including:
• Database creation and management.
• Experience with REDCap
• Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, and data visualization.
• Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Experience with study coordination.
• Experience conducting data analysis using R, SAS, and/or Stata.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Prior research, clinical or other professional experience with HIV/STD.
• Prior research, clinical or other professional experience with public health surveillance data or medical records data.
• Experience collaborating with and contributing to a research team.
• Research specific training in Protection of Human Research Subjects.
• Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with writing scientific manuscripts, grant applications, or technical reports.
• Experience with study recruitment.
