Position Summary
As a Lathe Setup & Programming Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and programming CNC lathes to ensure precision manufacturing. You will play a crucial role in optimizing machining processes, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining quality control.
Key Responsibilities
Setup & Operation:
+ Set up and operate CNC lathes according to production specifications.
+ Install and adjust tooling, fixtures, and workpieces for efficient machining.
+ Ensure proper alignment, calibration, and tool offsets for accurate cuts.
Programming & Editing:
+ Read and interpret G-code, M-code, and CNC programming language for machine operations.
+ Create and modify programs using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, GibbsCAM).
+ Adjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material properties and tolerances.
Quality Control & Inspection:
+ Inspect machined parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
+ Verify conformance to tight tolerances (±0.001") and specifications from engineering blueprints.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
+ Diagnose and correct machine errors, tool wear, and setup inconsistencies.
+ Perform routine maintenance and preventive checks on CNC lathes.
+ Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA safety standards.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
+ Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of CNC lathe machining, including setup and programming.
+ Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of G-code/M-code and CAD/CAM software.
+ Machining Knowledge: Expertise in machining principles, tooling selection, feeds & speeds.
+ Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
Preferred:
+ Experience with Haas and Mazak CNC controls.
+ Knowledge of basic programming and editing of CNC programs.
+ Previous experience in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing industries.
