Job Summary
The Cell Testing and Optimization Engineer works hands on in the laboratory executing experimental designs, including evaluating new materials, electrode processing, cell assembly and testing and data processing.
Responsibilities
+ Must have a collaborative spirit and interact across R&D, cell design and material design teams to effectively and efficiently advance Alkegen’s core SiFAB® silicon anode technology.
+ A drive to overcome complex challenges is essential
+ Manage and take responsibility for Si Anode cell system design optimization including Component Optimzation, E Chem Interpretation and feedback whilst working within a wider team and acknowledging all inputs.
+ Lead efforts in material testing and down selection, including: electrode processing, cell assembly and testing and data processing.
+ Able to write, follow and educate teams on standard operating procedures and keep detailed records for all associated equipment maintenance and material/cell testing.
+ Carry-out design of experiments for determining next steps in material and cell understanding.
+ Perform in-depth data analysis on experiments and use datasets to justify new experiments.
+ Qualifications
+ Ph.D. or equivalent in Battery-related Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or a similarly relevant field with 5+ years of experience post-Ph.D. Or M.S. with equivalent work experience (+8 years)
+ Strong background in silicon anode technology and its electrochemical interactions with cell components (electrolyte, cathode, etc.) is highly preferred.
+ Extensive hands-on experience in design and fabrication of lithium-ion battery cells from separate components (active materials, slurries, coatings, etc.) to full cell design (coin cell & pouch cells).
+ Expertise in root cause analysis, failure mode analysis, and cell diagnostics to improve cell performance and manufacturing processes.
+ Knowledge of industrial standards for battery materials, processing, and testing protocols.
+ Strong knowledge of electrochemical characterization techniques (e.g., EIS, CV, DQ/DV, three-electrode cells).
+ Must be able to use a data driven approach to prioritize and down select most impactful experiments to maximize rate of progress and communicate why.
+ Familiarity with safety and quality standards for battery manufacturing and laboratory operations.
+ Experience of developing new IP would be an advantage.
Annual salary: $104,000 - $130,000 depending on experience.
