    Posting Description

    POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, The Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI), to join an academic team developing new processes for adventitious agent detection in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, with particular reference on coupling Oxford Nanopore sequencing with advanced microfluidics for improving separation of contaminants from cells or viral vector stocks. Will oversee the design and executing of experiments to develop and optimize spiking studies and detection protocols; analyze and characterize contaminants in culture samples using the Oxford Nanopore sequencer and microfluidic technologies; manage preparation and purification of virus and microbes for use in spiking studies; prepare, as needed revise, and submit scheduled technical progress reports; and closely collaborate with partners in the U.S. and Singapore as part of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology’s program on Assembling Screening, Productions, High-throughput Analytics, and Lentiviral Targetingfor T cells (ASPHALT).

    Job Requirements

    REQUIRED: Ph.D. in biochemical or chemical engineering, biological sciences, virology, microbiology, or related field; expertise in any of the following areas: Bioinformatic analysis using high-throughput sequencing technologies; Culturing microbes, both bacteria and fungus; Growth of mammalian or insect cells and virus in both suspension and adherent culture; and Viral infection and purification. PREFERRED: Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities; ability to work both independently and as a teammate; robust documentation and written and oral communication skills; and ability to troubleshoot technical issues and develop and execute detailed technical protocols.
