The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine is recruiting a S ection C hief of P ediatric R heumatology . We seek a dedicated and compassionate board-certified or board-eligible p ediatric r heumatologist to join our growing team and Department . The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care for children and adolescents with rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions, contribute to innovative research, and participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellow s . This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of pediatric rheumatology in a supportive and dynamic department and environment.
The new C hief will join a team of experienced clinicians and staff dedicated to leveraging clinical care and research to meet the needs of a diverse patient population. The ideal candidate should have a solid track record of excellence in clinical care , research , and teaching. The C hief will be expected to mentor junior faculty and trainees in their career development, foster growth in clinical areas, expand scholarship, and establish an affirmative, positive working environment .
Job Duties
Clinical and Operations
+ P rovid e and deliver exceptional care to infant, child, and adolescent patients with rheumatological conditions , includ ing evaluat ion , diagnos is , admission, and consult ation
+ Diagnose and treat a wide range of pediatric rheumatologic conditions, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis, lupus, vasculitis, and other autoimmune diseases
+ Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including pediatric subspecialists, nurses, and social workers, to deliver holistic care
+ Engage in clinical research and clinical trials, and contribute to advancements in pediatric rheumatology
+ Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows
+ Participate in quality - improvement initiatives and D epartmental meetings
+ O versee operations of the Section of Pediatric Rheumatology section, guiding clinical practices and ensuring that services are aligned with the latest advancements in the field
+ Fulfill the Department’s mission of providing extraordinary care every day to children of all ages
+ C ollaborate with nursing leadership, emergency physicians , advanced practice provider s , and hospital administration to ensure high-quality rheumatology care that evolves to match the needs of patients, the D epartment, Holtz Children’s H ospital, satellite clinical practices, and the community
+ Develop, maintain , update, and implement departmental policies, procedures, and protocols
+ Ensure providers are aware of and adherent to departmental, hospital, and medical - staff policies
+ Perform quality assurance and lead pediatric rheumatology improvement initiatives in the D epartment
+ After sufficient growth of the pediatric rheumatology service, recruit additional pediatric rheumatology faculty members
Liaison Relationships
+ W ork to ensure effective communication between pediatric rheumatology physicians , APPs , and other hospital medical staff
+ Be a member of or chair hospital committees , as appropriate and relevant . These may include medical - staff executive committee s, and committees for disaster preparedness, critical care, quality improvement, case management, risk management, utilization review, etc.
Risk Management
+ Participate in relevant risk - management activities , including communication with facility legal representative(s) concerning relevant D epartmental issues. Work with rheumatology staff to identify and mitigate areas of high risk
Education
+ Identify , participate in, and/or provide opportunities for ongoing focused courses for/by the pediatric rheumatology staff, as appropriate for staff, the patient population, and facility needs
+ P lay a crucial role in mentoring an d training staff , medical student , residents, and fellows, fostering a culture of learning and professional development in the division. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving initiatives that improve patient experience
+ Additional teaching or supervisory responsibilities may exist in teaching facilities
+ Explore the possibility of establishing a pediatric rheumatology fellowship
Minimum Qualifications
+ Minimum Education: M.D./D.O. degree or equivalent , and successful completion of an accredited fellowship in pediatric rheumatology
+ Minimum Certification/Licenses: Florida Medical License required and B oard c ertification or equivalent in pediatrics ; Board certification in pediatric rheumatology by the American Board of Pediatrics (or eligible for same)
