SENIOR MAINTENANCE MECHANIC-PIPEFITTER
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This employee performs skilled trades work performing a variety of tasks relating to the maintenance of pipefitting equipment, systems, fixtures, etc. of municipal facilities. Assignments are received from and reviewed by a higher-level employee. This employee is a lead worker on many group projects. Related work is performed as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
+ Evaluates work orders and project requests to determine procedures and resources
+ required to complete assigned tasks.
+ Performs all tasks relating to the installation, maintenance, repair and rebuilding of a wide
+ variety of pipefitting equipment, systems, fixtures, etc.
+ Performs difficult and complex work relating to pipe fitting, including cutting,
+ fitting and soldering of copper pipe, cast iron, steel and PVC.
+ Fabricates ferrous, non-ferrous and non-metallic fitting, piping and components into systems.
+ Performs Sewer maintenance with sewer cable machines and water sourced jitters.
+ Plans, lays out work assignments to be performed.
+ Determines required supplies and materials necessary to complete tasks and orders supplies
+ and materials.
+ Ensures that the quality of required supplies and materials meet acceptable standards for the completion of tasks.
+ Determines required technical support necessary to complete tasks and requests assistance
+ from other departments and vendors.
LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
+ Knowledge of sanitary systems, domestic water systems,
+ gas fittings, storm and sanitary drain systems.
+ Knowledge of building or plumbing codes concerning these systems.
+ Knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology of the plumbing trade.
+ Knowledge of the safety procedures and accident precautions of the plumbing trade.
+ Knowledge of basic principles of one or more of the other mechanical or construction trades.
+ Skill in performing plumbing and maintenance tasks.
+ Ability to work directly from detailed plans, specifications and rough sketches.
+ Ability to carry out oral and written directions.
+ Ability to make comprehensive evaluations of project assignments.
+ Ability to work with other employees using tact and diplomacy.
+ Ability to recognize and correct hazardous working conditions.
+ Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
+ Knowledge of plumbing codes specific to City of Rochester.
+ Knowledge of departmental and City safety policies and practices.
+ Knowledge of employee work rules and the policies and procedures of the Rochester Housing Authority.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*A High School diploma or G.E.D., PLUS
Three (3) years of experience independently performing pipefitting activities.
*NOTE: Work experience requiring reading, writing, and performing arithmetic computations daily may substitute for education on a year-for-year, case-by-case basis.
Special Requirement:
An active New York State Class D (former Class 5) Driver's License at time of appointment. This licensure must be maintained throughout employment in this job.
