Job Summary and Qualifications
The Assistant Controller is responsible for general accounting functions including financial reporting of facility operations and support of facility management. He/she assists the Controller with Accounting, Accounts Payable and Revenue Integrity.
Essential Functions:
Supervises Accountants in the department.
Responsible for supervision of the department in the Controller’s absence.
Accurately and efficiently performs the day-to-day and month end general accounting activities of the department in compliance with regulatory and corporate standards.
Monitors all activities to ensure completion of work in specified time frames.
Responsible for maintaining Fixed Asset system including all documentation for fixed assets in the facility and Professional Building.
Assists in completion of the Year End Work papers.
Responsible for obtaining lease income reports from Trammell Crow as well as posting and analysis.
Responsible for balance sheet reconciliations and assignment of reconciliations to accountants.
Share in daily/weekly accounts payable processing including batching and sending documents to RSC.
Assist in the preparation of the annual Medicare Cost Report including reconciliations and analysis.
Participate in development and detailed review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.
Respond to questions from directors regarding their DOR and participate in meetings with the director and others for DOR review as needed.
Cross train with other accounting staff in PLUS, STATS, Medicare month end processing and other duties as they arise.
Participate in semi-annual hospital wide inventory.
Participate in training both internal and external to expand knowledge base and to share knowledge with others.
Respond to requests for information from Corporate, Internal audit and other internal and external management.
Maintain strictest confidentiality to ensure that privileged and/or propriety information is adequately safeguarded against disclosure.
Works closely with other members of the accounting department in a team atmosphere.
Creates and fosters an environment which encourages open communication within the department and between hospital departments.
Promotes internal and external customer satisfaction
Builds and promotes a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required
Working knowledge of accounting theory, principles and practices sufficient to identify and describe accounting systems and sub-systems
Working knowledge of the financial accounting process
Working knowledge of research techniques to analyze and evaluate financial data and information
Working knowledge of accounting information systems (Business Objects, Essbase, Host, Meditech)
Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Outlook
Proficient in preparing narrative financial reports
Experience:
Minimum three to five years accounting experience with progressive responsibility in a hospital healthcare setting
Must be high energy to deal with high volume, fast paced environment that may be stressfu
