Overview of Position: The Ski and Ride School Children’s Manager oversees all aspects of our children’s ski and ride program, including scheduling, sales and reservations, lesson organization, performance management, guest satisfaction, and budget management. This key leadership position is an integral component of creating alignment throughout the ski and ride school to attain both long-term goals and short-term objectives.

+ Lead a team of operations supervisors in goal setting, training, and performance management of instructors
+ Training:
+ Convey and apply accurate technical information for the activities being taught
+ Observe and evaluate movement patterns and skills of lesson groups and prescribe accurate information in group and individual settings to promote enhancement of the instructor staff’s teaching skills, technical skills, and people skills
+ Understand the Alpine Skiing and/or Snowboard Fundamentals and how they apply to lessons of varying skill levels to continuously enhance the quality of the lesson experience
+ Facilitate the ability to reflect upon experiences and sensations to promote development of staff
+ Develop relationships based on trust with all stakeholders to effectively lead the program with clear expectations, consistency, and transparency
+ Engage in meaningful two-way communication with all stakeholders to effectively understand and solve any guest or employee issues
+ Develop strategies for growth based on guest and team feedback
+ Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to achieve their goals
+ Recognize and influence the behaviors and motivations of your team to build authentic connections that create a strong work culture dedicated to achieving the school’s goals
+ Collaborate on long-term goals and short-term objectives with leadership team and instructor staff
+ Create and maintain an environment in which the instructor staff, supervisors, and staff trainers can manage information, activities, terrain selection, and pacing of lessons to achieve desired outcomes
+ Promote play, experimentation, and exploration of skills and mountain terrain
+ Adapt product delivery tactics to the changing needs of the students and staff
+ Manage staff scheduling, payroll, and any personnel issues that may arise
+ Ensure compliance with safety and health standards, policies, and procedures
+ Maintain supply inventory and reorder when necessary
+ Complete class lists, timecards, incident reports, and other essential paperwork
+ Ensure all desk staff have strong product knowledge and communication skills
+ Actively participate in the budgeting process for the Children’s program and the Ski and Ride School as a whole
+ Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications and Skills:
+ Minimum three seasons experience teaching skiing and/or snowboarding in children’s programs
+ Experience as a supervisor or manager in a children’s ski and ride school strongly preferred
+ PSIA/AASI Level 2 Certification or equivalent required, Level 3 Certification preferred
+ PSIA/AASI Children’s Specialist Accreditation preferred
+ Experience as a staff trainer at a recognized ski and ride school preferred
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Mastery of leadership and interpersonal skills
+ Intermediate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook
+ High school diploma or equivalent, college degree in relevant field preferred
+ Skiing or Snowboarding ability:
+ Must be an advanced level skier or snowboarder capable of skiing or riding all mountain terrain
+ Must have a strong understanding of the Alpine Responsibility Code
+ Physical Requirements:
+ Must be able to regularly and consistently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
+ Must be able to push, pull, stoop, kneel, and reach regularly throughout the work day
+ Must be able to position self to access boots, skis, snowboards or other equipment on the ground or snow surface for yourself and/or students
+ Must be able to observe and identify (visually and auditorily) potential hazards and obstacles including but not limited to safe trail and traffic merging, appropriate lift riding, changing snow conditions, and avoidance of other people and obstacles
+ Must be able to safely walk, hike, ski or snowboard, and navigate uneven terrain with snow and ice-covered hills and surfaces for up to 6 hours per day
+ Must be able to work in any outdoor winter weather conditions for up to 6 hours per day
Work Schedule and Conditions: *This is a seasonal position with potential for year-round employment. We are in the business of providing a premier product and experience for our guests. Traditionally our busy periods are during weekends and holiday periods which you will be expected to work. You can also expect to be asked to work extra hours or days on occasion, especially during the holiday periods.
