Scope of Job
To perform CT imaging exams as prescribed/ordered by a licensed physician.
Description of Duties
+ Images patients utilizing approved protocols/procedures and brings questions forward before imaging patients.
+ Administers contrast agents and utilizes sterile or aseptic techniques where applicable. Reviews medications and allergies. Follows the five rights of drug administration.
+ Demonstrates the ability to address and handle patient care concerns and notifies the radiologist if and when gross pathological findings are discovered.
+ Communicates professionally, effectively, and promptly with all patient care providers, patients, and guests. Practices responsible use of communication tools (status board, paging systems, telephones, email, fax, etc.).
+ Ensures all patients are provided care in a safe environment, free of hazards. Provides full attention to the patient and the procedure.
+ Demonstrates skills required to complete clinical competencies and can function independently without direct supervision.
+ Ensures that patient studies are reviewed for accuracy, coded, and charged appropriately.
+ Performs and responsible for quality assurance activities on technical equipment and collaborates with appropriate parties to resolve image quality issues.
+ Ensures that imaging studies are appropriately imaged and error rates are minimized to appropriate established levels.
+ Maintains an in-depth knowledge of all routine section-specific protocols/procedures. Able to perform specialized procedures with limited assistance.
+ Accurately enters data into systems (i.e. PACS , equipment systems, electronic medical records and other computer systems.
+ Maintains Quality Control/ Quality Assurance following ACR , and TDH standards and regulations. Assures that all documentation is accurately recorded and kept in an organized manner susceptible to instant inspection if needed.
+ Maintains continuing education and experience requirements following Joint Commission, ACR , and TDH standards and regulations.
+ Performs radiologic procedures (i.e., x-ray, flouro) as needed.
+ Ensures work areas and equipment are safe, clean, organized and appropriate supplies are available for the procedures and checklists are completed (including emergency supplies). Restock supplies and forms as needed.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
Graduate of an accredited Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology ( JRCERT ) Program/Associate degree in a related field of study.
Preferred Education
Completion of a Computed Tomography Program
Licenses/Certifications
Registry in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( ARRT )®(CT). Must have a Medical Radiologic Technologist ( MRT ) certification from the Texas Medical Board. Basic Life Support ( BLS ) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR ) certification.
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
Required Experience
One (1) year of experience as a Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist or two years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist.

Use of standard office equipment and medical imaging equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel, weekend work, and irregular shifts may be required. Occasionally may exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

+ Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures.
+ Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from medical records, significant others, and health care providers.
+ Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
+ Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.
+ Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques, and universal precautions.
+ Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
+ Must be able to demonstrate oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff.
+ Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
