    Job Summary/Basic Function

    About This Role:

    Manage, organize, and supervise all aspects of teaching and research laboratory support. Maintenance of chemicals, laboratories and instrumentation.

    What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:

    + Procurement of materials related to teaching and research such as purchase of glassware and chemicals, proper storage, and inventory of instruments.

    + Support research grant proposal submission and follow up, help to maintain research/teaching instrumentation.

    + Support departmental computer systems and shared instrumentation.

    + Supervise personnel providing chemistry/biochemistry laboratory services.

    + Provide training and guidance in work responsibilities; plan, assign, and direct work; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.

    + Help prepare payroll budget authorizations; retrieve, track, and approve timesheets for laboratory employees.

    + Establish and enforce proper disposal of materials, instruments, and sensitive documents.

    + Solve problems related to daily laboratory management.

    + Coordinate inter-departmental and inter-college laboratory activities.

    + Attend Chemistry and Biochemistry department meetings as requested by the Department Chair.

    Key Competencies:

    + Must have good customer relations or student service skills.

    + Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.

    + Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

    + Able to work independently to solve problems and to meet deadlines.

    + Knowledge in chemistry

     

    Advanced knowledge in safety related to chemistry and instrumentation

    Physical Requirements:

    Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s in chemistry, biology, or related science field.

    + 1 year of relevant experience in laboratory management, including supervising personnel, managing projects, and overseeing budgets.

    + 1 year of experience handling chemical waste ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Master’s degree in chemistry, biology, or a related science field is preferred.

    + 2 or more years of relevant experience in maintaining instrumentation.
