St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital. *Job Summary:* Reporting to the Director of Perioperative Services, and in partnership with Quality and Patient Safety, the Nurse Process Optimization Specialist performs audits and analyzes data to evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of Nursing services and care provided and implements Quality & Risk Management action plans to ensure regulatory compliance. This role uses data and findings to support and promote continuous process improvement and best practices in quality care and patient safety throughout the inpatient acute care/nursing care areas. In addition, this role services a single point of contact across the nursing departments focusing on process improvement and working collaboratively and in partnership with the system Quality & Risk Management team. This role’s primary activities for process optimization include medical chart auditing, data analysis and tracking/trends, identification and inclusion of relevant benchmarking, and providing support for improvement priority initiatives as outlined by the clinical nursing and leadership team. *Responsibilities:* * Performs the following work across nursing departments: medical chart audits, data collection, analysis and trending, benchmarking, and conducts literal observationsimplementing Quality & Risk Management compliance action plans and initiatives. * Utilizes data collected from the activities above to evaluate nursing related clinical processes and identifies process improvement and best practice standards for optimum patient outcomes, management/decision-making, clinical quality improvement, and compliance with standards of care, contracts, and regulatory requirements. * Provides ongoing reporting of results and key metrics to internal and external stakeholders based on data collected using statistical techniques, i.e. data from various sources, such as EMR, Quality Dashboards, Surveys and observations in partnership with Clinical Bedside Nurses & Nurse Educators. * Maintains the analytics within various platforms (i.e.: Excel, Cipher, PICC dashboards, and departmental documents). * Provides insights and guidance through review and analysis of nursing processes, data, clinical documentation, and practice from the analytical perspective for the department in support of SVMC’s strategic priorities. * Designs and delivers methodologies and operational process improvement programs aimed at increasing staffing efficiency, decreasing variation and eliminating waste. Consults with and engages departmental leaders at all levels to recommend actions related to quality and safety outcomes under the guidance of the Nursing Leadership Team and in collaboration with the System Quality & Risk Management team. * Facilitates the development of survey tools, metrics, dashboards, reports, and quality monitoring plans with a focus on the analytical and statistical perspectives of healthcare. * Contributes to the development of meaningful goals and objectives for the department that align with the strategic directions of the organization by analyzing needs and developing recommendations. * Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Public Health obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date * Associates Degree in Nursing, BSN preferred * 3-5 Years clinical/professional experience and Epic EMR experience required * Operating room and/or Perioperative nursing experience strongly preferred * Healthcare reporting, Data Analysis, and Medical Record Auditing/Review experiance required, 5 years preferred * Strong analytical systems-thinking project management and facilitation skills aimed at performance improvement. * Must be able to read, write and understand oral and written instructions in English as well as effectively communicate information in English.
