    CDL Bus Driver

     

    Salary: $19.64 - $20.91

     

    Position Overview: The Driver position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of passengers supported by The Arc Ontario, contract passengers, and the general public. Duties include adhering to designated routes, operating vehicles in compliance with safety regulations, assisting passengers with loading and unloading, and ensuring the correct use of equipment such as wheelchair lifts and seat belts. The role also involves performing routine vehicle inspections, maintaining cleanliness, keeping accurate records, and complying with reporting requirements. The driver must maintain a valid NYS commercial driver's license, submit to drug and alcohol testing, and be proficient in emergency procedures. The position also requires ongoing training, certification in CPR and First Aid, and participation in mandatory meetings and drills.

     

    Hours: Part-time or per diem. M-F 25 hours per week. Hours vary between 6 am and 4pm to meet program needs

    Responsibilities

    + Responsible for safe and timely pickup and delivery of all persons assigned to designated routes while driving a bus.

    + Maintain a valid NYS commercial driver's license (Minimum class C) with an unrestricted passenger endorsement. Maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate and comply with all NYS Vehicle and Traffic laws, NYS DMV 19A rules and regulations. Submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post collision drug and alcohol testing. Limited food prep/service

    + Responds to individual needs of passengers and report any issues to a supervisor. Utilizes two-way radio to contact base when necessary while bus driving.

    + Provides supervision and assists passengers on the bus during loading and unloading of vehicle at designated stops. Demonstrates safe and correct use of wheelchair lifts, seat belts, Q-Straints, etc. Demonstrates proper lifting techniques when transferring passengers from a wheel chair to the bus.

    Requirements

    + Must be at least 18 years old.

    + HS diploma/GED preferred and one year of experience or an equivalent amount of education and experience.

    + No moving violations for 12 Months prior to hire.

    + Valid NYS Commercial Driver's License class C with unrestricted Passenger Endorsement or willing to acquire within thirty days of hire.

    + Must be Department of Motor Vehicles 19‑A certifiable.
