Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), is seeking a full-time Subject Matter Expert for Algorithm Development for Remote Sensing from Microwave and Infrared Sensors to support a NOAA contract focused on technology maturation and exploitation of emerging technologies.
This position currently allows for a hybrid work schedule which requires several days per week of on-site work at the NOAA facility in College Park, MD as well as a few days of telework per week, based on the needs of the client and subject to change.
Please note this position is contingent upon contract award.
Position Summary:
This position will support NOAA's premiere research office, which focuses on developing the satellite algorithms needed to transform satellite observations into environmental measurements. The candidate we seek will support efforts to assess future, emerging, and contemporary Algorithm Development for Remote Sensing from Microwave and Infrared Sensors the applications for integration of remote sensing with environmental data products and numerical models.
Primary Duties:
+ Enhance the processing, manipulation, visualization, analysis, or interpretation of remote sensing data
+ Develop and implement algorithms for the production of infrared and microwave satellite retrievals
+ Develop accurate, effective, and efficient computational strategies for ingesting raw satellite observations and converting them into standard data formats.
+ Testing and evaluating software
+ Troubleshooting and debugging existing and newly developed software
+ Responsible for software testing, integration, maintenance, documentation, quality, and compliance standards.
+ Translate scientific algorithms or pseudo code into stable and computationally efficient software
+ Contribute to software development reviews
+ Convert existing code into another language
+ Optimization and parallelization of existing code for improved performance
+ Prepare software documentation and associated training materials
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
+ Education: Minimum Master of Science in Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Physical Science, Atmospheric Physics, or related field with emphasis in remote sensing or equivalent
+ Minimum of 10 years related work experience
+ Experience with radiative transfer models in infrared and microwave regions
+ Experience with black body emission algorithms
+ Experience with algorithms for the calculation of Stokes vectors
+ Experience in writing computer code for modeling physical systems
+ Scientific programming experience in IDL, MATLAB, and/or FORTRAN
+ Some practical application of computing and scripting languages such as FORTRAN, Python, C, and C+
+ + Knowledge of common satellite data and numerical model formats, such as NetCDF, HDF, BUFR, GRIB, etc.
+ Experience working with scientists across disciplines and of diverse backgrounds on technical activities
+ The candidate must be able to provide examples of authored code and completed projects.
+ A demonstrated ability to work effectively with others
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
+ Able to collaborate effectively with other team members to meet deadlines.
+ Strong desire to learn and work in a science environment
Desired Experience/Skills:
+ Experience in satellite remote sensing and analyses of large environmental satellite data sets with a preference for meteorology, oceanography, atmospheric physics, or related fields.
+ Experience with a combination of the following: PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, CSS, and HTML.
+ Knowledge of designing software systems for high-performance computing systems, such as distributed and shared memory supercomputers, and parallel programming libraries (e.g., MPI).

Salary at GST is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $100,000 to $126,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of the GST total compensation package for employees.
