UPMC Hamot is seeking a full-time Trauma Registrar to join our dynamic Trauma team. As the foundation of our program, the Trauma Registry plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely data to support all aspects of trauma care. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards benefits package, along with the opportunity to work from home following training (about 12 weeks). Following, our Trauma Registrar will be on site two days each month. The ideal candidate will have experience with ICD-10 and AIS coding, as well as a background in emergency or inpatient clinical care or EMS. In this role, there is the opportunity to -
+ Document data and attendance at continuing education programs to ensure ongoing professional development.
+ Demonstrate commitment to excellence in trauma patient care by supporting service management objectives.
+ Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Trauma Program Manager, contributing to program success.
+ Follow protocols for adding or removing patients from the trauma database to ensure accurate records.
+ Identify trauma patients by monitoring Emergency and Admitting Departments on a daily basis.
+ Engage in follow-up activities as needed to ensure accurate data tracking and management.
+ Accurately maintain the computerized registry system by entering, correcting, and updating data as required.
+ Contact the Trauma QA/Registry Coordinator for clarification or problem-solving regarding clinical data.
+ Maintain the statistical database and generate routine monthly reports, responding to special requests.
+ Attend and participate in Trauma Quality Improvement (QI) activities, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
Required
+ Education and Years of Experience:
+ High School Diploma with a minimum of 3 years of trauma registry, coding and/or abstracting experience OR
+ Graduate of an accredited record technician program or an Associate Degree with 1 year of trauma registry, coding and/or abstracting experience
+ Knowledge of medical record content, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
+ Prior experience in ICD-9 coding
Preferred
+ Abbreviated Injury Scoring (AIS)
+ Experience in computer data entry, databases, and data retrieval is desirable
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Act 34
