Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Engineering and serves as a key leader within the College. The Director of Industrial Partnerships and Cooperative Programming provides leadership and direction for the College of Engineering’s cooperative/internship programs, industrial partnerships, and career planning office. This includes supporting students in making informed decisions regarding undergraduate and post-graduate plans by providing resources and opportunities to encourage co-op/internship and career exploration, as well as fostering strong relationships with industry partners to enhance collaboration, technology transfer, and professional development initiatives.
The role also oversees the Industrial Partnership Program, which aims to build and sustain mutually beneficial relationships with local and national industry partners, secure sponsorships and gifts, and provide training opportunities for engineers to meet professional licensure requirements. The Director works in collaboration with the Dean, faculty, and staff to determine annual priorities and execute strategic initiatives that support students, industry engagement, and the College’s overall mission.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
+ Industrial Partnership Program Management and Industry Engagement:
+ Oversee the Golden Triangle Industries/Lamar University Engineering Partnership Program, fostering collaboration and industry support.
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for industry-related partnerships and initiatives.
+ Manage membership benefits, including advising on training topics and offering discounted rates for seminars and events.
+ Develop and sustain relationships with industry partners to secure sponsorships, gifts, and funding opportunities for COE programs.
+ Represent the College at industry events, meetings, and advisory boards.
+ Professional Development and Training Coordination.
+ Career Counseling and Advising:
+ Provides individual and group co-op/internship and career counseling.
+ Provides career-related seminars for interested students.
+ Identify student needs for career-related advising and create services and resources to meet those needs.
+ Communication and Representation:
+ Represents the college of engineering in various professional organizations and addresses a wide range of constituencies as chief spokesperson for college’s undergraduate career planning.
+ Addresses alumni groups, parents, faculty, student organizations, and other administrators on co-op/internships and career-related issues.
+ On behalf of Dean, serves on college-wide committees and represents the Dean on task forces to investigate new endeavors.
+ Frequently called upon to evaluate candidates for positions in division and to serve on search committees elsewhere within the institution.
+ Program Development and Management:
+ Directs and develops the university’s cooperative/internship program.
+ Oversees development and expansion of career discovery program.
+ Event Organization and Management:
+ Organize and manage high-quality career fairs and industry networking events.
+ Plan and oversee industrial partnership meetings and events, ensuring alignment with college priorities.
+ Financial Management and Fundraising:
+ Develop and monitor the budget for Industrial Partnership and Career Services programs.
+ Write and present grant proposals to secure funding for ongoing programs and new initiatives.
+ Collaborate with COE fundraising efforts to achieve financial goals for the Industrial Partnership Program.
+ Resource Management:
+ Maintains an up-to-date career resources library.
+ Maintains resumes for participating students and alumni and placement credentials for those in the field of education.
+ Maintains, posts, and/or distributes information concerning full and part-time co-ops/internships and jobs.
+ Miscellaneous Duties:
+ Conducts the annual graduate employment survey.
+ Maintains membership and active involvement in professional organizations.
+ Reviews and updates annually all career services publications including the career guide, career services brochure, credential file forms, co-op forms, and graduate survey.
+ Chairs committee and helps select grant recipients.
+ Creates and monitors multiple reserve funds.
+ Other duties as assigned.

+ Proficient in delivering highest quality of customer service when engaging with industry leaders, representatives, faculty, staff, and students.
+ Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing and proofreading capabilities, and is adept at interacting with staff at all organizational levels.
+ Strategic planning/visioning aptitude.
+ Understanding and appreciation of engineering.
+ Budget management/fundraising background.
+ Knowledge of growing role technology plays in delivery of career services.
Physical Requirements:
+ Lifting and Carrying: The ability to lift and move reams/boxes of paper, tables, decorations, and other supplies, weighing up to 50lbs, as necessary for job tasks.
+ Event Setup and Teardown: Must be capable of setting up and tearing down equipment and materials for events, which may involve bending, lifting, and carrying.
+ Extended Periods on Feet: This position may require long hours spent standing during events.
+ Candidates should be able to stand, walk, and perform job duties for extended periods.
+ Walking Campus: Ability to walk around the campus, including participating in visits and camps, which may involve traversing various terrains and buildings.
Job Conditions: 8 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday, some early mornings, some evenings, some weekends. This is an on-campus position. This position requires participation and possibly attendance at all College of Engineering and Engineering Institute for Energy and Petrochemical Industries ( EPI ) events.

Minimum Qualifications
+ A master’s degree in related field from regionally accredited institution.
+ 3 or more years of professional experience in university/college setting or in engineering/business in a human resources or training and development function, or a discipline whose preparation is suitable for this position.
+ Knowledge of career counseling techniques, job trends, and career development skills.
+ Official transcripts are required at the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
+ Full-time experience on a college/university student services staff is preferred.
+ An understanding of the principles of college student development and the policies and structure of a typical four-year, public university.
+ Proficiency and experience in utilizing a range of technologies, which may encompass, but are not limited to, systems like Banner, MyScholarships, various social media platforms, event design platforms, purchasing systems, event reservation platforms, Customer Relationship Management ( CRM ) systems/Slate, etc.
+ Proficiency in advanced technical and computer skills to support administrative functions, including but not limited to the MS Office Suite, with a strong focus on PowerPoint, Excel, and database management.
+ Familiarity with electronic calendar management and various videoconferencing applications like Outlook, Zoom, MS Teams, MS Office, Slate, etc.
