    Essential functions (job duties):

    The Department of Psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI seeks applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position (9-month) in the area of Biological Psychology/Neuroscience.

     

    Candidates must hold a doctorate in Psychology, Neuroscience or related field.

     

    Successful candidates are expected to develop a strong research program, mentor graduate student research, and contribute to our undergraduate and graduate curricula in Psychology and Neuroscience. Competitive salary and start-up funds are available.

    The candidate should have a demonstrable and strong research experience in either behavioral neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience or related fields.

     

    It is expected that the successful candidate will complement the department’s research strength related to brain health, such as neurodevelopment, neurodegeneration, neuropharmacology, aging and cognition, and drug abuse, but we are open to any relevant area within neuroscience.

    Applicants must possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to work with diverse populations and to create an inclusive learning environment that is attuned to the educational needs of all students.

     

    Evidence of effective teaching experience in a college or university setting with students from diverse backgrounds is highly desirable.

     

    The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate research competency as well as evidence of continued growth of one’s research agenda, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals and the potential to secure external funding. They will also be expected to contribute to student advising and service to Department and University committees.

    About the Psychology Department

     

    The Department of Psychology (https://clas.wayne.edu/psychology) is one of the largest and most vibrant departments in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, with Ph.D. programs in Clinical, Social-Personality, Behavioral & Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology. There is excellent collaboration among faculty within the Department as well as with other WSU academic units, research institutes, the medical school (https://www.med.wayne.edu/about) and affiliated hospitals. The department has facilities for research and applied work in several buildings on campus and typically receives $3 to 4 million in grants and contracts annually.
