Job Description
THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO EMPLOYEES CURRENTLY SERVING AS A PERMANENT PHOTOGRAPHER OR FILED FOR THE CURRENT CIVIL SERVICE EXAM.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

Under direct supervision, selected candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Print and prepare daily case labels in accordance with operational requirements.
- Capture photographs for official purposes, including but not limited to autopsies, neuropathology, evidence collection, events, headshots, disaster exercises, and other relevant activities.
- Review photographs for quality control to ensure compliance with established departmental protocols and standards.
- Upload photographs to designated systems or applications for subsequent review by medical examiners.
- Aid other OCME staff in the execution of photographic projects, as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper functionality of photographic equipment, reporting any malfunctions or issues to the supervisor.
- Attend staff and agency meetings as required
- Reviews and responds to emails.
- Perform any additional related duties as assigned by the supervisor or agency.

Qualifications
1. Three years of full-time paid satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten years as a professional photographer; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional, or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 12 credits in photography, and two years of full-time paid satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional, or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 credits in photography, and one year of full-time paid satisfactory experience as described in "1" above.
Note: Experience in film and camera sales is not acceptable. Experience as an amateur photographer such as that acquired in a hobby or leisure time activity is not acceptable.
