    Position Overview

Autodesk is seeking an experienced Distinguished Architect to join our AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) division. Our distributed team is dedicated to solving large-scale challenges in the construction industry. As a Distinguished Architect, you will identify, assess, prioritize and most importantly drive the transformation of Autodesk’s Administration system into a scalable, extensible, robust enterprise offering.

As the senior-most architect for the Admin domain, you will define the technical strategy, partner with peer architects and platform leaders, and own the long-term evolution of foundational services that touch every user and project in Autodesk’s cloud. This is not a thought-leadership-only role, you’ll be expected to drive alignment, make difficult tradeoffs, and shepherd platform evolution with empathy for both legacy consumers and forward-looking strategy.

    Responsibilities

+ Lead the architectural design and implementation of Common Project Admin - a shared service for administration of users, roles, licenses, and permissions - that will serve all of Autodesk’s products

+ Rearchitect entitlements to allow for various product bundling and provisioning options

+ Define project structure and membership to be compatible with Autodesk’s ecosystem of products and future expansions

+ Ensure designs are scalable, performant, and future-proof. Demonstrate theoretical and empirical evidence that proposed designs and implementations can withstand several orders of magnitude of growth

+ With Construction as Customer #1 for Common Project Admin, ensure the backward-compatibility and product fit for the ACS Admin use cases

+ Closely partner with other architects on solutions that leverage underlying platform services. Where changes are needed to those services, work closely with those peers on a roadmap

+ Closely partner with other architects in the organization on taxonomies and shared system models

+ Lead Architect Council sessions for AEC Construction, facilitating the process of proposal and approval of cross-cutting projects that have architectural impacts

+ Mentor junior architects and tech leads in Admin and adjacent team, reviewing and approving their work

    Minimum Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent related field

+ 12+ years of experience as a software engineer / architect capacity

+ Self-directed with an ability to complete work strategically and efficiently

+ Experience working with fault tolerant, distributed systems

+ Ability to work cross-functionally with other teams

+ Experience working with tools and technologies including, but not limited to, Node.js Terraform, Postgres, AWS

+ Experience architecting cloud-native solutions and authoring complex system designs

+ Proven ability to lead development teams from a technical perspective—partnering with managers, setting technical direction, unblocking engineers, and guiding design and delivery

+ Hands-on experience across the software delivery lifecycle: writing production code, operating systems in cloud environments, participating in on-call rotations, managing incidents, and leading postmortems

    Preferred Qualifications

+ Proven experience working at a large-cap SaaS company

+ Experience designing, building, managing, and retiring platforms with a wide array of consumers

+ Demonstrated innovation through patents, publications, conference presentations, etc
