    Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Pathology Technician - Histology.

     

    As a Pathology Technician at MercyOne, you will perform high complexity tissue grossing in the surgical pathology area and assists with autopsies.

     

    + Under the direction of a pathologist or pathologist’s assistant, performs gross description and specimen dissection of simple surgical specimens and prepares/fixes semi-complex surgical specimens.

    + Processes cytology specimens under supervision of cytotechnologists.

    + Performs instrument maintenance according to established protocols.

    + Assists pathologist and pathologist’s assistants in performance of autopsies, and frozen sections.

    + Responsible for the maintenance and functionality of the morgue.

    + Registers patients in Atlas system and accessions cases in Cerner.

    + Identifies and logs specimens with incorrect, discrepant, or missing information, and resolves in partnership with the resolution department.

    + Monitor pending logs and resolve outstanding orders in a timely manner.

    + Discards surgical tissue according to policy.

    + Files slides and blocks.

    + Assists with training new employees.

    + Maintains supply inventories.

    + Supports and utilizes LEAN principles and standard work.

    General Requirements:

    + A bachelor’s degree in a science-related field OR education equivalent that includes the following:

    + 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR

    + 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.

    + Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel.

    + Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required.

    + Good hand-eye coordination.

    + Working knowledge of basic medical terminology.
