    Overview:** ** 

     

    We are seeking a manager for our Investment Management Technology Team to solve technical problems, develop new applications, and enhance asset and investment management. The candidate will improve the Wealth Investment Management Team's capabilities, streamline processes, upgrade systems for new investment products, and implement technologies using Agile best practices.

     

    + Reporting to the Head of M&T Wealth Technology, the successful candidate will be a key member of the M&T Tech team; responsible for providing leadership and oversight concerning technology strategy, implementation, and production end-to-end.

    + The successful candidate needs to understand business functionalities and vendor ecosystem as it pertains to all aspects of asset and investment management: from order generation, to trading, client and performance reporting, investment analytics and planning. Experience with streamlining investment and reporting processes and the implementation of unified/separated managed accounts are a big advantage.

    + Because of the nature of the business, the resource will own and lead both, the development of inhouse built applications as well as the integration of vendor packages. We expect the successful candidate to research and assess viability of software vendors. Negotiate contracts. Hold vendors to their SLA. Improve integration patterns.

    + While we expect a significant portion of software is vendor provided, vendor software needs to be integrated and applications have to developed by the Investment Management Technology Team. As such we expect the successful candidate to be proficient in integration techniques, understand data management and have a history in developing multi-tier applications. Furthermore, the resource needs to understand software testing and understand how to architect an infrastructure for the investment and asset management software environment.

     

     

     

    Primary Responsibilities:** ** 

    Technology Leadership & Innovation

    + Apply innovative technology solutions to enhance the M&T Wealth business.

    + Establish and lead Communities of Practice to facilitate discussions on platform-wide improvements.

    + Define and curate technology guiding principles, standards, and best practices in alignment with Enterprise Architecture.

    + Assist business teams in scoping and planning upcoming projects.

    + Develop logical architecture for solution components and provide technical and functional design guidance.

    Strategic Leadership & Team Building

    + Recruit, develop and coach each member in his team. Participate in firm-wide recruitment initiatives.

    + Influence and drive the investment and asset management technology strategy with agility.

    + Lead Agile teams, ensuring collaboration across business, operations, development, and technology groups.

    + Apply Scrum, Design Thinking, and DevOps methodologies to improve efficiency.

    + Navigate ambiguity and leverage design thinking to provide clarity to abstract concepts.

    Execution & Delivery

    + Identify project risks and create mitigation plans.

    + Manage multiple digital projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget.

    + Oversee accessibility compliance and cybersecurity best practices.

    + Partner with PMO to manage team budgets and project funding.

    Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

    + Communicate effectively with internal teams, enterprise stakeholders, and external vendors.

    + Present digital strategy, project requirements, and status updates to leadership.

    + Tailor messaging for diverse audiences, including engineers, product owners, and executives.

    + Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to translate complex issues into actionable insights.

    Technical Expertise

    + Experience with application integration patterns, API design (REST, SOAP), and API management.

    + Hands-on expertise with SQL and NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB).

    + Strong knowledge of web application development (Angular, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JSON).

    + Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud deployment strategies.

    + Familiarity with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Selenium, Cucumber).

    Industry Knowledge – Wealth & Asset Management

    + Deep understanding of financial products, investment management, client reporting, and risk management.

    + Experience with performance reporting system implementation and optimization.

    + Knowledge of trading, order generation, and process automation in UMA and SMA environments.

    Education and Experience (Required):** ** 

    **Degree:** A combined minimum of 11 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 4 years’ engineering and/or architecture experience and 5 years' leadership experience including people management

    Technical Expertise:

    Lead experience with regards to building web applications; Angular frontend, complimented with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JSON skills & solid programming background in other web technologies.

     

    Hands on experience with regards to application integration patterns, designing services, data management, commercial Web applications, application containerization and network configuration.

     

    Experience with SQL databases, experience with NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and/or MongoDB.

     

    Deep knowledge of API (REST, SOAP), API Management and building scalable and high-performance Web APIs using Java or .net core.

     

    Understanding and appreciation of infrastructure; e.g. network architecture, application monitoring, containerization, virtualization.

     

    Experience developing with testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, Selenium, and Cucumber

     

    Understanding of application cloud deployment and cloud configuration.

    Financial Technology Systems** **:

    Understanding of the product, operations, and technological needs of Wealth and Asset Management organizations. This includes Financial Products, Investment & Asset Management, Accounting, Client Reporting, Loan Origination, Payments and Risk Management.

    Vendor Management** **:

    Some experience with COTS business application vendors, IT vendors, and contract management.

    Soft Skills:

    Technical leadership, people management, problem-solving, communication, time-management, cross-functional team coordination, and technical mentorship

    M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $143,874.91 - $239,791.52 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
