Description
A Robert Half client, a successful, multi-location business headquartered in the western suburbs of Chicago, is seeking a seasoned HR leader to take ownership of the function for the very first time. This is a rare ground-floor opportunity to design and shape HR from the ground up in a well-established, family-owned company with a loyal workforce, long employee tenure, and a clear path toward modernization and growth. This role is ideal for a hands-on, strategic HR professional who thrives in environments where they can build something meaningful from scratch, without disrupting what’s already working. You’ll partner closely with the executive leadership team to assess current people processes, identify compliance needs, and slowly roll out HR structures that foster organizational growth and employee wellbeing. Salary range: $90k-120k + bonus, ONISTE, Medical, dental and 401K + match.
Responsibilities:
+ Serve as the organization's first dedicated HR leader and trusted advisor to executive leadership
+ Evaluate and transition HR tasks currently managed across departments
+ Slowly implement structured HR practices while maintaining the collaborative culture
+ Audit current practices and bring the organization into full compliance with employment laws and regulations
+ Serve as the go-to expert on all matters related to labor standards, wage and hour, and policy interpretation
+ Lead efforts to redesign pay structures and develop a bonus program tied to individual and company performance
+ Create fair, competitive, and transparent total rewards programs that align with company goals
+ Build out a performance management process that supports career growth, accountability, and recognition
+ Oversee payroll operations
+ Recommend and refine tools and systems that drive HR efficiency and accuracy
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree required
+ 8+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in small to mid-size businesses
+ Proven expertise in compliance, compensation design, and performance management
+ Experience rolling out HR programs in traditional environments
+ Thoughtful and adaptable approach to change management
+ Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred
