    The Assistant Instructional Designer, in Human Resources, reporting to the Manager, Online Learning in Human Resources/Organizational Development & Learning (OD&L) will join a dedicated and expert unit focused on providing comprehensive talent and professional development to staff and faculty across Boston University's 17 schools and three campuses. This role will contribute to learning initiatives that support employees at all stages of the employee lifecycle.

     

    Under the leadership of the Manager of Online Learning and in close collaboration with the OD&L team, the Assistant Instructional Designer will play a key role in supporting the design, development, and implementation of asynchronous online learning experiences using instructional design best practices, multimedia tools, and accessibility standards. They will assist in conducting needs assessments and gathering input from subject matter experts (SMEs) to design engaging and effective learning materials. Applying ADDIE or SAM instructional design frameworks and adult learning principles, they will contribute to the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of online asynchronous learning. This role will be responsible for creating scripts, storyboards, and multimedia content to enhance learner engagement, as well as developing both print and digital learning materials for courses, programs, and initiatives delivered in various modalities. A key focus will be ensuring that all course materials are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with best practices for equitable learning. Additionally, the Assistant Instructional Designer will research and integrate multimedia technologies to enhance instructional design and course development. This role will partner with a variety of departments and stakeholders bringing empathy, effective communication, and customer experience skills, and a solution-focused mindset to understanding stakeholder needs and desired outcomes to create relevant and engaging learning experiences.

     

    This role must bring demonstrated experience and a firm understanding of adult learning principles and online learning design and have familiarity with inclusive learning practices. They must also have a learning mindset to keep up with the changing landscape of online learning tools and platforms. Additional qualifications include strong time and task management skills, exemplary writing and communication abilities, familiarity with LMS platforms, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

    Required Skills

    + 2 years of experience with instructional design tools. (Articulate 360 suite)

    + Familiarity with Microsoft Suite of tools, photoshop, and video editing software

    + College degree or certifications in related field required.

    + Experience with ADDIE/SAM instructional design frameworks
