This position is located at district headquarters in Roseville and has the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule that includes in office and teleworking time. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.
NOTE:** **THIS POSTING REPRESENTS ONE (1) MULTI-LEVEL POSTING.** **IF THE POSITION IS NOT FILLED BY A QUALIFIED APPLICANT AT THE TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST LEVEL, THE POSITION MAY BE FILLED AT THE TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST SENIOR LEVEL.
Position Purpose:** **This position is responsible for providing technical assistance and quality assurance inspections prior to and during construction of traffic signals within the Metro District.** **It is also responsible for the coordination of signal turn-ons by utilizing available resources from the Signal Operations Unit and the Contractor verifying that all aspects of the signal have been tested before the turn-on.
_Job Duties_** **_:_** **Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:
+ Lead the West Area Signal System Inspection program for the Metro Traffic Engineering Office as a Signal System Construction Inspector.
+ Review as-let documentation (plans and special provisions).
+ Recommend for approval any project related documentation including shop drawings and field changes.
+ Coordinate turn-on activities with the Metro Traffic Construction and Metro Traffic Technician supervisors.This includes coordinating with the Electrical Contractor and Construction.
+ Review pre-letting Signal Design plans prepared by Metro Traffic, consultants, local agencies, and permit applicants to ensure that they meet established standards resulting in uniformity and integrity.
+ Signal Operations technical support liaison.
+ Investigate in the field signal operation complaints to identify problems and report any corrective actions needed.
+ Provide support to Central Office for signal system recertification training and acting as the technical support person in the construction of signal systems.
_The incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called._
A Transportation Generalist Senior also performs Snow & Ice duties such as:
+ Maintains roadways for snow and ice control: removes snow from roadways and shoulders; opens and widens roadways of large accumulations of snow; removes snow from rights of way or yards; applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slippery conditions; removes frozen ice and material from culverts; and performs night or dawn patrols.
Minimum Qualifications
The level of experience to perform this job at the **Transportation Specialist** level can be achieved with:
+ Four years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities.
OR
+ Three years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities AND one year of experience in any of the following areas: road maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/ installation and/or permits.
+ **Note:** A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. Degree equivalencies include the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
+ A valid Class D Driver’s License.
IF THE POSITION IS NOT FILLED AT THE TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST LEVEL, IT MAY BE FILLED AT THE TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST SENIOR LEVEL BY UTILIZING THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS.
The level of experience to perform this job at the **Transportation Generalist Senior** level can be achieved with:
+ Two years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities;
OR
+ One year of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities AND a combination of one year of experience in any of the following areas:road maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/installation and/or permits.
+ **Note:** A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. Degree equivalencies include the following four-year degrees:Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
+ A valid Class D Driver’s License with no major traffic convictions in the past 5 years AND the ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver - Class B license with no air brake restrictions and tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire (training will be provided).
Math and Reading Assessment for Transportation Generalist Senior:
+ Receipt of a passing score of Level 4 or higher on the math portion of the computerized test and Level 4 or higher on the computerized reading test. [The job offer is contingent on passing a basic math and reading test.] Applicants meeting minimum qualifications will be contacted to test and may select a test site based on their geographic availability.
