Position Overview
Under general direction of the Program Director, The Cook is responsible for purchasing, stocking, preparing and cooking the food that is provided to clients at a program site. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.(SDV)
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Cleans food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, equipment and utensils.
+ Ensures sanitation, health and safety standards are maintained in work areas.
+ Measures ingredients required for specific food to be prepared.
+ Washes, cuts, chops and prepares foods designated for cooking.
+ Follows menu in preparing meals.
+ Follows recipes in cooking meals.
+ Cleans, stocks and restocks workstation and supply area.
+ Must follow personal sanitation standards before, during and after cooking food.
+ Orders and takes delivery of food and supplies.
+ Cleans up kitchen and takes proper care in storing leftover food.
+ Complies with nutrition and sanitary regulations and safety standards.
+ Maintains a positive and professional approach with co-workers and clients.
+ Keeps abreast of new ideas in field.
+ Performs other duties as requested
Shift: 10:30AM-6:30PM Sunday through Thursday
Requirements
Education, Experience, License/Certification and/or Skills Required:
+ High School Graduate or GED OR Culinary School training.
+ At least two years of prior experience as a Cook in a restaurant or similar environment
+ Food Handling Certificate is required.
+ Good understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
+ Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
+ Good communication skills
+ Familiar with best practices.
+ Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and staff.
+ Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Preferred Education, license/certification, Experience and/or Skills:
Work Environment
+ Will be cooking and heating hot food items and must take the necessary precautions.
+ Flexibility and patience are required.
+ Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
+ Must be able to multi-task
+ Standing for large periods of time.
+ Lifting and carrying (up to 25 pounds), reaching, squatting, and kneeling may be required.
Some potential hazard associated with clients who can become aggressive especially during crisis interventions
